Do not collect resources in excess. Keep in mind what you want to build and collect resources only for that structure. That's because your inventory space is initially very limited and it can easily filled with excess materials.
As soon as possible, get a knife. To obtain one, use the Fabricator. Thanks to this item, you will be able to catch some fish that you can eat, as well as sample plants necessary for crafting.
Do not venture too far into the ocean. The depth there is more than 100 meters, which increases oxygen consumption. Without sufficiently big aqualung, you will be unable to reach the ocean floor, not to mention collecting any resources. Additionally, you have to come equipped with food, water and first-aid kits to prevent dying.
Although the Aurora seems to be an appealing destination, there is no point in traveling there at the beginning of the game. The shipwreck is completely sealed, so there is no way to enter it at this point. Additionally, it is located in an irradiated area, so staying there will damage on your health. You will be able to approach the wreckage only after it explodes and the Radiation Suit blueprint becomes available.
Try to avoid cave complexes. Your oxygen supply is limited and it will not last for too long. If you encounter a big cavity, you may be unable to resurface.
Build a Scanner. This will allow you to scan the nearby fauna and flora, as well as the remains of the Aurora. Additionally, this will provide you with additional entries in the encyclopedia and with new blueprints.
