Ethan's health - how to check?
In Resident Evil Village , health bar is not visible on the screen at all times. If you want to check Ethan's current state, you have to open the inventory. You'll find the health bar in the upper left corner of the inventory, as shown in the image above. Its color represents the state of your health - you must be on guard and, as far as possible, react if it is orange or red.
Note that opening the inventory pauses the game, although once you start healing, an animation will start. So it's a good idea to heal yourself while away from enemies.
Other things that may indicate serious injury are screen distortions and a red glow around the screen edges. The game may also display an on-screen message reminding you to heal yourself.
Healing wounds - First Aid Med
First Aid Med bottles are used for health recovery. You don't have to open the inventory each time you want to activate healing. You can press R1 / RB on the controller to use the medicine right away.
Medicine can be obtained in three ways. The first method is to find ready-made bottles of First Aid Med as loot - examine all the locations thoroughly.
The second method is to produce the medicine yourself through crafting. To produce 1 First Aid Med bottle, you need 1x Herb and 1x Chem Fluid. Of course, you can find ingredients for crafting by exploring the game world.
The third method is to buy medicine at the Duke's. It is the least cost-effective method and you should only use it if you have used up your entire supply of First Aid Med. By default, one bottle of medicine costs 1000 Lei.
Permanent health bar extension
While visiting the village for the second time (after returning from the castle), you will unlock a new option to interact with Duke, the merchant - The Duke's Kitchen. It allows you to cook based on the unique ingredients provided to Duke. These are primarily the remains of murdered pets, fish and birds.
In the recipe list, you should be especially interested in three dishes that can permanently increase Ethan's energy bar. These are:
- Herbed Fish - requires Fish x3, Poultry x2 - consuming this dish will slightly extend the main character's health bar.
- Three-Flavored Mititei - requires Fish x4, Poultry x2, Meat x3 - consuming this dish will extend Ethan's health bar.
- Tochitura de Pui - requires Poultry x4, Meat x3, Juicy Game x1 - consuming this dish will extend the protagonist's health bar significantly.
Death and its consequences
When your character dies, two main options will appear - you can restart the game from the last checkpoint (not necessarily the typewriter save point) or exit to the main menu. The second option can prove useful if you don't want the game to record Ethan's death in the stats for a given playthrough.
The death screen also allows you to change the difficulty level, though it's worth remembering that lowering the difficulty could potentially lock you out of some trophy.
