Fighting the big werewolf Varcolac and getting a grenade launcher
Ethan's next task is to go to the Reservoir to locate one of the lords, Moreau. Apart from getting Moreau, the main character will want to find a new Flask and complete another section of the multi-step Collect Rose main mission objective.
You will only be able to start the journey after you have returned to the village from House Beneviento. By defeating Donna Beneviento, the main character obtained the Four-Winged Unborn Key. You can use it to open the south gate at the Altar (where Duke is).
You will return to the part of the village where you had the big fight with the Lycans at the beginning of the game. It won't be safe here this time, either, because Ethan will be attacked for the first time by a large werewolf Varcolac.
The best way to deal with the werewolf is to hide in the nearest hut and use the fact that he can't barge inside to your advantage. You can safely shoot at the werewolf from inside the hut. Just make sure you don't get too close to the door or window, or else you'll be within range of the monster's long claws.
You can also weaken the werewolf in other ways, such as deploying mines in the area or using the sniper rifle.
It's also theoretically possible to skip the fight - after hiding in the hut, you could wait for the beast to move away and then sneak towards the path leading to the Reservoir. However, we don't advise doing so - the werewolf is not very resilient and will leave behind a valuable Crystal Beast treasure which you can sell to Duke.
Before heading to the Reservoir, be sure to investigate the hut that requires the Iron Insignia Key (Ethan obtained it at the Dimitrescu Castle) - we've marked it in the image above.
Inside this hut, you can find the GM 79 grenade launcher, which is the second best weapon in the game. The grenade launcher can fire explosive or stun rounds. You will be able to find ammunition in the game world and craft it yourself, but only after buying the correct recipes from Duke.
Getting to the Reservoir
You must keep following the only possible path that runs by the river. Soon, you will come across the first green slime barrier. You don't have to use a grenade launcher or any other better weapons to destroy it. A pistol or even a simple knife will also work, although it will take a little longer to destroy the barrier then. This will not be a problem as long as you have gotten rid of the werewolf and don't have to run from it.
Walk along the narrow path until you reach another slime barrier. You have to destroy it, which will unlock the access to the ladder. There's a windmill with a typewriter nearby, where, among other things, you'll find a new Labyrinth Puzzle, but you can't solve it now because you will only find the correct ball later. The Mechanical Door is also temporarily unavailable.
Optionally, you can kill the animals that you meet to obtain Meat for Duke's meals.
Get to the Reservoir Elevator and use it to get to the mine. Most of the passages in the mine are blocked. The only one available will lead you to where you'll meet Moreau. Ethan will take the Arms Flask jar with Rose's fragment, but Moreau won't let you leave the Reservoir area too easily. New green barricades will immediately start appearing in the area - you can avoid or destroy them.
One of the paths leads outside, and after leaving the mine you will eventually reach a small waterfront with a boat. Your attempt to start the boat engine will fail - you will need to find the Boat Key.
Finding the Boat Key
You must return to the mine and look around for a new path leading towards the ladder icon on the map. Reach the dimly lit area in the image above. Here, you must interact with the board wrapped in yellow tape on the right - you will unlock your way further.
Eventually, you will reach a large cavern where several lycans reside at first - you can shoot them easily.
It's worth looking around the main part of the cave first and collecting as many supplies as possible. After approaching the hut, more enemies will appear in the area. Search the hut to find the Boat Key.
You now have two main options. The first option is to fight the lycans directly, but you must be aware that apart from the "ordinary" monsters, an armored enemy will also appear. It's worth using pipe bombs to eliminate larger groups (grenade launcher ammo is best saved for later).
The second option is to try to sneak or escape the lycans - in this case, kill only those monsters that stand clearly in your way.
Regardless what you do, go back to the boat, but expect more lycans to appear near it - these monsters are worth killing in this case.
Use the key to start the boat and go on board.
