Source Points: what are they and how to get them in Divinity Original Sin 2? Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide, walkthrough
Last update: 09 March 2020
This page of the Divinity Original Sin 2 guide contains an answer for a essential question - what are the so called Source Points. We explain in detail how to gather them (there are a few ways of doing so) as well as how to use them.
What are Source Points?
Source Points can be seen as an additional way of casting many of the most powerful spells and those, that are connected to a unique magic school (Sourcery). These points are also necessary for solving some puzzles. However, they have two problems - a necessity of removing the Collar that blocks the ability to collect them and the fact that you have to get these points in the first place. If you want to learn how to remove the Collar, you should check out the walkthrough for "The Collar" quest.
How to obtain Source Points?
When you get rid of the Collar, you can now start gathering these points. The game offers you a few ways of doing that:
- Using Purge ability (previously known as Source Vampirism). You can use this ability thanks to two items - Purging Wand (the way of getting that item can be found in the description of "Call to Arms" quest) and Corrupted Tyrant's Helm (check out "How to get and use Braccus Rex's armor"). Each use of this ability allows you to get 1 Source Point.
- Absorbing a soul from special jars. Their location and a way of acquiring a soul can be found in descriptions of "Withermoore's Soul Jar" and "Vault of Braccus Rex" quests. Absorbing a soul gives you 1 Source Point.
- Regenerating points from special spots. You can find them scattered around the world, usually in places that are key to the story. Absorbing a spot gives you 1 Source Point and a spot itself can re-appear in the same place after some time.
- Regenerating points thanks to containers with substance. One container can be found in Vault of Braccus Rex and one near Siva's House.
Remember that, in the beginning of the game, your characters have access to only one Source Point - this means that some of the abilities won't be available and you will have to regenerate that point after each use. However, with your progress in the story you will be able to unlock the second and the third socket. Thanks to that your characters will be able to store 3 Source Points.
