Which perks to unlock in the first place in Far Cry 5? Far Cry 5 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 26 March 2018

Thanks to perks, you can receive new combat skills, unique gadgets and generally, boost your character. New skills are obtained with perk points. Since you will not be receiving these points in large quantities, it is a good idea to plan on the order in which you want to unlock perks and obtain the best ones in the first place. Below, we have provided a list of the most useful perks at the beginning of the game.

Key perks to unlock

Leadership - 6 points, 3 recruited specialists - probably, this is the most useful perk in the game. Thanks to it, you will be able to select 2 different specialists to travel with, thanks to which the game will become easier. When it comes to which specialists to pick, see chapter Specialists in this guide. Note - you will have, at least, 3 specialists, out of 9 unlocked, for this perk to be available.

Additional Holster - 8 points - this perk unlocks the third weapon slot. This is is helpful because, apart from the side weapon, you can also carry two primary weapons. The best idea is to take along various types of weapons, thanks to which you will be prepared for any eventuality (e.g. a sniper rifle for long-range combat and a shotgun, or HMG if you are spotted by the enemies). Later in the game, also buy Weapon collector perk, which unlocks the fourth weapon slot.

Health Boost 1 - 6 points - At high difficulty level, this perk is a priority. On normal difficulty level, it is not as important to obtain it that early in the game. There are several tiers to this perk, but they will cost you increasingly more and more points, so it is better to wait with them until later.

Grapple - 1 point - this is one of the most affordable perks and this is why you should unlock it early in the game. Thanks to the grapple, you will be able to reach higher ground. This comes in handy, when you want to find a well-hidden treasure, or sneak up to an enemy outpost from the less obvious direction.

Further perks to obtain

Repair Torch - 5 points - this perk may come in handy, if you are playing a mission where you have to steal a vehicle (e.g. a tanker), and if it has been damaged as a result of fights. Its another functionality is ripping open safes that you find in the game.

King of the Jungle - 6 points - this perk makes it easier to travel across the game world, because you do not have to fear that many attacks from wild animals. Also, it can help you hunt for animals for their hides.

Black Market - 6 points - the main upside of this perk is that it provides you access to special types of ammo (e.g. incendiary), which may be useful while destroying enemy vehicles, or heavily-armored cultists. Apart from that, you can buy other black market goods at shops - new types of throwables.

Vehicle Buster - 7 points - this perk is interesting if you prefer aggressive fight. Often, it may save your life, to destroy an enemy vehicle. Also, follow the game suggestion and obtain some AT ammo, thanks to which you will be even more effective.

Auto Repair - 6 points - this is an interesting perk, whose usefulness you will come to appreciate during longer rides. You do not have to change your vehicle, nor use the torch after you stop the vehicle.

Rifle Mastery - 7 points - this is a perk that allows you to use various types of firearms. Since this one is about using rifles, we deem it the most useful, but you can select something else, if you prefer different types of weapons.

Sneaky Sprint - 4 points - take interest in this perk if you sneak often. Thanks to sneaky sprint, it is easier to squeeze past enemies, which decreases the risk of being spotted. Later in the game, also obtain the related Ghost perk.

Takedown Mastery - 6 points - it is always a good thing to show some variety in takedowns. What is especially helpful is the ability to take down multiple enemies you receive with this perk. You no longer have to distract them, nor take down only lonesome enemies.

Locksmith - 6 points - thanks to this perk, you can open safes in the game world. In the case of doors, you cannot rely on lockpicks, however. These require keys to open. Consider unlocking this perk later on, if you have already unlocked Repair Torch (it also opens safes)

Journey Pack - 7 points - this perk increases the volume of your inventory. This may be especially useful in the case of first-aid kits, because you can carry up to five of them, thanks to this perk. If you are playing at high difficulty, consider buying this perk early in the game.
