How to act during random encounters in Far Cry 5? Far Cry 5 Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 06 April 2018
You can meet cultists not only during missions but also while you are exploring the world. Below you can find a list of the most frequent random encounters along with our hints on how to act during them.
- Reaping trucks
- White cult vans
- Other cult vehicles with its insignia
- Cult vehicles without insignia
- Innocents kidnapped or are chased by cultists
- Roadblocks
- Enemy convoys and flying machines
Reaping trucks
Shoot a truck driver (with a sidearm while you are driving a vehicle). That truck will stop. After that you have to find the lever that will unlock access to its back. This gives you resistance points. Remember that you can search the inside of a truck.
Note - You can also find parked and unguarded trailers - the picture above shows an example. You open them in the same way as the regular trucks. This action always gives you resistance points. Also, you can find valuable items inside of them.
White cult vans
Vans are used for transporting prisoners. Shoot its driver with a sidearm. Approach the back door and open it to release prisoners. This will reward you with resistance points.
Note - Use Repair Torch (you have to unlock the perk with the same name first) if a van has received too much damage.
Other cult vehicles with its insignia
Vehicles differ between regions. You can come across, e.g. fuel tankers or pickups that are used for transporting drugs. Destroy vehicles marked with an icon to receive resistance points. You can, e.g. shoot its driver and then use explosives when that vehicle stops.
Cult vehicles without insignia
Destroying vehicles without cult insignia won't give you any points so just ignore them. Try to leave a battlefield fast if you notice that an enemy vehicle has a turret on its roof.
Innocents kidnapped or are chased by cultists
You can come across cultists with hostages standing on a side of a road or cultists chasing innocent citizens (on foot or by driving vehicles). Kill those cultists but try to not harm friendly NPCs. Resistance points are received either automatically after killing enemies or after rescuing hostages (approach a kidnapped NPC and hold the interaction button to liberate them).
Roadblocks
You can break through roadblocks but you should do that only when you are driving a bigger vehicle (e.g. a larger pickup car or a truck). Otherwise, you should leave your vehicle and destroy said roadblock with a rocket launcher or explosives. Destroy cult roadblocks to receive resistance points.
Enemy convoys and flying machines
You can encounter enemy convoys, planes and helicopters only after you cause enough chaos in a given region.
Attack convoys only when you are prepared for combat. The best way is to use a vehicle equipped with weapons (e.g. The Widowmaker truck) or by placing explosives on a convoy's route.
Use a machine gun or a turret to shoot down planes and helicopters. You can also set Nick Rye as your specialist - he can fight with enemy machines in the air. Don't ignore enemy planes because they can drop bombs that can kill your character pretty fast.
You won't always receive rewards for destroying convoys or planes/helicopters. However, they can be a part of certain missions - this is when you can get money and/or resistance points.
