Ashes of War are special items that allow you to change the active skill of your weapon. Thanks to them, you can exchange your weapon skill for a completely new one. You activate them by pressing the button responsible for using skills. Spirit Ashes, on the other hand, are items that, when activated, summon spirit companions that will help you in combat.
There are 3 Spirit Ashes in Ainsel River underground region. There are no Ashes of War here.

Spirit Ashes - Clayman Ashes [1]
This ash is obtained while in the course of the Ranni quest. As you reach Renna's Rise, you'll encounter a portal. Use it.
It will take you to the Ainsel River Main . Once you're there, go south along the tunnel and enter the next room with enemies. Go southwest, sticking to the edge, until you find a few clay enemies walking by. After getting rid of them, look for the corpse at the top of the waterfall.
Spirit Ashes - Archer Ashes [2]
The ashes are in Nokstella, Eternal City , behind the building shown on the map.
Spirit Ashes - Nightmaiden and Swordstress Puppets [3]
These ashes are also found in Nokstella, Eternal City . Go to the area marked on your map and then use the imp statue to insert one Stonesword Key . The ashes are inside the room. Watch out for the two enemies inside.
