I assume that at this point we don’t have to introduce Elden Ring and its only DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, since the game has already found a way to more than 25 million fans. The expansion is well worth playing as it is currently the best rated downloadable content in history. Despite this fact, some players experience various problems with said DLC, for instance, inappropriate activity error. However, what is even more frustrating, there are performance issues, which in such intense game are simply unacceptable. Stutters, lags, freezes, FPS drops… no matter how we name them, it can be very distracting when fighting new, powerful enemies. Let’s dive deeper to learn more about this matter.

FPS drops in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

There are productions that do not require perfect fluidity when it comes to gameplay. However, Elden Ring is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Slightest stutters can decide on life and death in this title, especially when it comes to the latest Shadow of the Erdtree release. It is said to be even deadlier than the base game. The expansion introduced some performance issues that plague many players. What is interesting, there are reports that the lags started appearing before the DLC has even launched.

Disheartened fans are looking for culprit in many different places, starting with ever-hated anticheat software and problems with newer CPUs featuring E and P cores. There are many propositions on how to fix the situation, varying from playing in borderless window mode, closing all unnecessary background programs, or playing offline. It is worth trying all of them, however it is also important to bear in mind that they have small chances of success.

Interestingly, there are reports of players who are unable to play due to freezes which happen only after using their mouse to look around. This problem is also supposedly fixed by playing offline.

As many fans reporting problems usually have higher-end machines, it is hard to believe that it’s an issue on players’ side. Due to that, the best hope is to look for future patches and hotfixes that will most likely hit Elden Ring soon.

Once you will be able to play the game peacefully, you may want to check out our guide and an interactive map.
