Diablo 2 Resurrected: Damage / Attack Speed - what to choose? Diablo 2 Resurrected guide, tips

Last update: 06 September 2021

On this page of the Diablo 2 Resurrected guide you'll learn which kind of weapon you should use and which parameters are most important - damage dealt with each hit or attack speed.

Light weapons - pros

In Diablo 2 Resurrected, we usually try to obtain fast weapons. There are several reasons as to why they're preferable:

  1. If you're being attacked by an enemy, they can stagger you and interrupt your attacks, which have a long windup if you're using a heavy weapon;
  2. Wielding a light weapon makes it easier to fight swarms of weak enemies you encounter often, with no trade-off during boss fights;
  3. If your weapon has an additional property such as causing status effects or elemental damage, you can trigger said property much more often;
  4. Not all attacks will hit its mark - it's not practical to wait for a slow swing that ends up missing;
  5. Additionally, you need to invest into Dexterity to increase your hit chance. Most of slow, heavy weapons require a lot of Strength. Using them prevents you from building your character in an open-ended, balanced way, which could make the early game more difficult.

Heavy weapons - pros

The reasons why heavy weapons could still be worth using are:

  1. Momentarily not owning any good weaponry your character specializes in;
  2. Low mana capacity: every skill has a mana cost. In the early game, if you use an offensive skill while wielding a weapon with a very high attack speed, you'll quickly run out of mana. This means that initially, some classes aren't able to use light weapons effectively.
Keeping all that in mind, it's worth it to hunt for light weapons - for example, when picking between a polearm and a spear, the spear usually has higher Attack Speed - Diablo 2 Resurrected: Damage / Attack Speed - what to choose? - FAQ - Diablo 2 Resurrected Guide

What should you choose?

Keeping all that in mind, it's worth it to hunt for light weapons - for example, when picking between a polearm and a spear, the spear usually has higher Attack Speed. In the early game the benefits of high Attack Speed may not be noticeable, but in the late game, every fraction of a second you spend winding up for a blow counts.
