Diablo 2 Resurrected: Controller on a PC - can I use it? Diablo 2 Resurrected guide, tips
On this page of the Diablo 2 Resurrected guide, you'll read whether or not you can play the game on a PC with a controller.
Last update: 12 October 2021
On this page of the tutorial we will answer the question whether it is possible to play Diablo 2 Resurrected using a controller on the computer.
Due to the announcement of Diablo 2 Resurrected on consoles, the question came up whether it will support controllers in the PC version. This is a great way for new players who are not familiar with the mechanics of the game using only the mouse, but also for veterans who would like to try something new. You'll find detailed information about the controls in Diablo 2 Resurrected on a separate page of the guide titled Controls.

Can I play with a controller and keyboard?
The number of buttons on the controller is significantly limited relative to the keyboard. If you want, you can play using both the mouse / keyboard and the controller to expand the functionality-switching between devices is smooth, does not require changing the game settings.
Is it worth playing on a controller?
If you've never played Diablo 2 or you want to go through the game again with a slightly different experience, this is a very good idea. However, keep in mind that, on the controller, the game is harder - for example, it is much more difficult to aim the spells that you cast at a certain point, to deliberately attack from a distance. For this reason, this is not the way to play for higher levels of difficulty and for some classes of heroes - especially the ones casting spells. Features of the game on the controller:
- Surely the game is slower - inventory management, assigning active skills (open the skill tree and manually assign the selected skills to the buttons), collecting items.
- Difficult to cast spells at a given point and difficult to aim, even with ranged weapons.
- However, it also has its advantages, especially for people who do not have the skills on the keyboard: you get 6 buttons to use the skills shift - that's a total of 12 buttons easily accessible.
- Another advantage is the health of opponents, which is easy to observe - from now on, the health bar is visible above the monster's head, not at the top of the screen.
- When you open the equipment menu or skill tree, the game is paused, unlike the mouse and keyboard.
A good compromise is to play as Paladin or Barbarian, usually specializing in melee combat and supporting each other with direct combat skills and auras - then the game on the controller will be quite enjoyable. If you still have a mouse and keyboard at hand, managing your equipment will not be a problem either.
Why isn't my controller working?
To activate the controller in the game, navigate to the menu, try to press a few buttons and move the analog stick. It is also worth having a controller connected before starting the game. If the game does not detect your pad, there is a chance that it is not supported. You can only be sure that the most popular controllers will be supported, such as from Xbox and PlayStation consoles. However, there is no guarantee that any controller - especially ones from other manufacturers - will be effectively operated. If you have a problem with your controller, and you would definitely like to use it, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the application x360ce which is used to emulate the Xbox 360 controller and works in most games.
