Starting tips for Code Vein Code Vein guide, walkthrough
Last update: 25 October 2019
In this section, you will learn about the most important starting tips. Also, you can check what you have to be aware of while playing Code Vein.
- Watch out for the environment. In Code Vein, dungeons are designed in such a way where it is easy to fall off a cliff - your character will die and be reborn in your last Mistle. In addition, many opponents are hidden, for example, behind the columns or hanging from the ceiling.
- Blood Veil is very useful. Blood Veil is an armor. Each armor has a different attack animation. You perform Blood Veil after successful parrying, backstab or a strong attack (X on PS4). When you hit an enemy with one of these attacks (it is worth noting that you become invulnerable), you not only deal a lot of damage but also raise your Ichor limit. However, it disappears when you die or when you rest at a Mistle.
- Pay attention to the stamina bar. Stamina is very important in Code Vein - without it, you can't dodge, move faster and, of course, attack. Always remember to leave a small portion of the stamina bar. Don't use it all - it will regenerate faster in this way. When you use everything, stamina will take longer to replenish.
- Don't underestimate the Focus Gauge. Really, Focus is one of the best mechanics in the game. It allows you to recover stamina, it makes your attacks stronger, you are more resistant, and you can use a powerful Blood Veil attack. It is worth noting that opponents also have a Focus Gauge, so keep this in mind.
- In Code Vein, you don't have to be alone. If you have a problem, you can always ask an NPC to explore the world with you and fight opponents. The only thing you have to do is select the Switch Partner option in a Mistle and choose the character with whom you want to battle enemies. This option also works when you want to play alone.
- The weight of the equipment matters. The heavier weapons and armor you wear, the faster tired you get by attacking and dodging. Keep in mind the weight of your gear - the roll animation also becomes slower.
- Gifts should be used quite often. Gifts are nothing more than character skills, some are just for a given class, while others are for everyone. There are also skills that depend on who is accompanying you. Keep in mind that even though these skills are useful, using them costs you Ichor points.
- If you see a large group of opponents, lure as few as possible. Sometimes, you can come across a lot of opponents - fighting with all of them at once can cause you a lot of problems. Use Daggers, shoot weapons or use a Gift that shoots at an enemy to lure them to you. This strategy will make the game easier.
- Listen to your partner. Your companion will give you advice from time to time, for example, that there is an ambush or a shortcut nearby. Also, he may remind you that you have not enough health points and it might be wise to regenerate them before embarking on further journey.
- Pay attention to the radar. Every time you open a door, pull the lever or enter a completely new unexplored room, the first thing you should do is to take a look at the radar in the upper right corner of the screen. Such activities are displayed on the radar - what and where has opened, where the opponents currently reside and so on.
- You can climb up the ladder quickly. By holding down the dash button, you will be able to climb the ladders and descend from them at a much faster pace.
- You don't know what to do? Return to Home Base. When you've stopped at a certain point in the game and you're still not sure what to do next, then return to Home Base and walk to the map screen behind the sofa (where Io sits). The map will tell you about the following objectives.
- Learn how to perform successful Parry. By pressing the Parry button, you will trigger a short animation if you do it at the right time. This action deals very high amount of damage to enemy and increases your Ichor limit.
- Health restoring items are the most important ones. When you start fighting with a more powerful opponent, remember to set your health restoring items in the quick slot beforehand. This will allow you to avoid awkward situation in which you wanted to heal yourself but instead you used another another item.
- Attack from the air is very helpful. If you're on a higher platform than your opponent, make an air attack that deals far more damage than normal attacks.
- Don't underestimate the abyss. In Code Vein you can easily die at the hands of your enemies, but it's even to accidentally commit a suicide by yourself. Try not to engage in battles with your opponents over the abysses, because it could end in your death.
