On this page of Borderlands 3 game guide you will find a description of The Guns of Reliance mission. This mission will take you through a series of battles in two different locations - first in town of Reliance and then in Fort Sunshine, which must be infiltrated to save a kidnapped ally.

Go near the currently unavailable town of Reliance to meet with Clay. Follow him and climb a bit to avoid the closed entrance gate and get to the city. Start by getting rid of the first few Children of the Vault fanatics and get to the closed building where Clay is standing.

You have to get rid of your enemies that guard the cages. Every time you've eliminated fanatics from the area, go to the cage and attack the big red padlock to destroy it and open the cage. When all civilians are liberated, talk to Clay and fire a gun at the large door opening mechanism. You can optionally look inside and pick up rare random loot from the chest.

You must take part in the next battle with the COV fanatics. After you defeat all enemies return to the gas station area. More fights with opponents await you. Further groups of opponents will appear near the motel and in the city center. In the final part of the battles there will be a mini-boss - Long Arm the Smasher. In accordance with his name, he launches strong attacks in close range - melee combat. Shoot it with a good weapon for medium to long range combat.

After the battle is over, talk to Clay. Come to the lever to restore power supply to the city. From now on, you can return to Reliance by using fast travel. In the city you will also find slot machines, Catch-A-Ride station and commissioners of side quests.

You must go to Fort Sunshine. After reaching the closed fort, we will have to deal with COV troops that will arrive on board the dropship. If you want, you can attack enemies without leaving the vehicle. After the battles you must reach the Historical Lookout point adjacent to the fort. Listen to Clay's comment and go to Lumberhold.

Lumberhold is a sawmill occupied by enemy forces. You don't have to eliminate all enemies from this location. Defeat just those you meet on your way to the Loading Dock. The plan is to jump on one of the timber transports to get to Fort Sunshine. Wait for one of the loads to arrive and jump towards it to land on timber logs. If you make a mistake, you'll have to go back upstairs and try again.

Don't move and wait patiently for the cargo (you landed on) to reach Fort Sunshine. If possible, choose a more secluded place to jump off, because as soon as you land at the fort you will be in the "center of interest" and intense fighting may begin.

Once inside the fort, try to avoid the open air as much as possible. This is particularly important in the main courtyard, as there are many durable Tink Sentry watchtowers there. Try to destroy them one by one and from behind a durable distant curtains.

Watch out for stronger enemies such as Turnkey Tim, Badass Fanatic and Firebrand as you fight in the fort. It is advisable to attack them one by one and often look at the mini-map in order not to let someone surprise you, e.g. from behind.

In the next phase of the battle in the fort there will be a mini-boss - Muldock, The Anointed. This opponent can primarily teleport himself, so check the mini-map quite often. Muldock fires at you from a distance and can hide behind an energy shield. Then look for an opportunity to walk him around or throw area grenades towards him. Also, avoid entering lava puddles that appear on the ground. The defeated Muldock will turn into a purple solid mass, which you can of course crash into a random loot.

After the battle, reach the indicated button to free Dalton. Meet him and pick up the key to his gun closet in Reliance. Return to the city (preferably by using the fast travel option) and open a large gun cabinet. In our case it contained a legendary Dastardly Hand of Glory assault rifle, but depending on the character class you can find something different in the container. Talk with Clay to end the quest - you will receive xp, credits and a cosmetic item as rewards.
