Lair of the Harpy | Borderlands 3 Walkthrough Borderlands 3 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 25 September 2019
This page of the Borderlands 3 guide contains a walkthrough for Lair of the Harpy, a storyline mission. During the quest, you'll visit a large Jakobs' Estate, take part in a lot of battles and face a boss (Billy, The Anointed).
Return to Floodmoor Basin and meet with Wainwright Jakobs, who can be found at Knotty Peak. You need to use a vehicle to reach the passageway leading to Jakobs' Estate.
You don't have to thoroughly explore the new map. Instead, focus on eliminating only those enemies that get in your way. The way to the estate leads through a village and a drawbridge (screenshot above). After reaching the building on the hill, you need to make use of a mobile platform travelling towards the villa.
When you reach your destination, head to the main entrance to the estate. Use the bell and wait until the doors of the estate open. You don't have to explore the villa, but along the way you can pick up a side quest (Sacked) or pick up further audio logs. Knock on the door on the upper floor to activate a cut-scene and learn about Aurelia's betrayal.
From now on, you need to eliminate opponents guarding the villa. Watch out for Goliaths, who are really durable. Try to concentrate your fire on them and avoid their attacks at the same time. A damaged giant can turn into a Raging Goliath. If that happens, run a lot and try to keep the enemy at a distance to avoid his melee attacks.
Moreover, one of the corridors hide a reinforced cannon. Use the fact that it is immobile and you can use it as cover. Continue moving. Expect further fighting in every larger room of the estate. It is worth noting that they allow you to travel between the floors and you should always rely on this option.
Be on the lookout after reaching the lodge neighboring the theatre room (screenshot above). Try to gather as much ammunition as possible and proceed to the scene only then. You are now standing before a boss encounter, in which you'll face Billy, The Anointed. It should be mentioned that Billy, in opposition to other bosses, doesn't have a health bar displayed at the top of the screen. The information about his current health is displayed above his head, the same as in case of standard opponents.
Billy has a few powerful ranged attacks - the most dangerous of the lot is a shock wave. You can avoid it by jumping over the wave, but the jump has to perfectly timed. Don't try to hide behind obstacles, as the wave can fly through them.
If you're hit by the wave, you'll most likely lose your shield completely and some of your health points. When that happens, focus on regaining your shields.
The boss can also send fire skulls that are targeted towards you. The skulls are homing, but you can shoot them down or run from cover to cover hoping that they hit something else.
The battle is made difficult by the fact that the boss can teleport from position to position. You must be prepared for the fact that Billy may suddenly appear, for example, behind the hero. Focus on observing the minimap (the boss is symbolized by a large red skull) so you won't get surprised by a sudden reappearance of the boss.
A unique feature of this battle is the fact that after entering the hall, the way back is not blocked. You can continue to fight Billy or withdraw to replenish your health. However, this is not a good idea. The theatre area contains standard opponents that you can fire at if you're in your final moments (Fight for Your Life) to revive yourself (Second Wind).
Billy, the Anointed has only one health bar, but the boss is pretty durable, so the fight may take a few minutes. His weak spot is his skull. Unfortunately, because of its small size, hitting it can be difficult if you don't have a sniper or other weapon offering high accuracy. Defeated Billy will turn into a purple cluster of crystals, which can be broken, leaving a lot of loot.
Follow the path shown by the game and reach the upper floor which contains a puzzle with three levers and a button.
There is a poster of Typhon Deleon found right of the levers which contains a clue on how to solve the puzzle. Your task is to recreate the setup shown on the poster.
The correct setup of the objects on the scene is shown by the screenshot above.
- Pull the left lever until Typhon's character appears armed with a whip.
- Press the middle lever until the ruins appear.
- Press the right lever until the Vault Arch appears.
After pressing the button, a trapdoor will open. Get to it and use it to reach the basement of the estate.
Inside the basement, there is a room called Monty's Den - enter it. Search the bookcase and find an interactive skull that will open the next room. Remove the Monty Wooden Record from the wall.
You can now leave the estate and fast travel to Floodmoor Basin. Meeting Wainwright and handing him the vinyl ends the quest and starts a new one - The Guns of Reliance. The reward for the quest is as follows: XP, credits, and epic Grenade Mod.
