Beneath the Meridian | Borderlands 3 Walkthrough Borderlands 3 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 25 September 2019
This page of our Borderlands 3 guide contains a walkthrough for a story quest called Beneath the Meridian. This mission involves reaching a vault guarded by The Rampager, a huge, powerful monster. You can enter the vault after defeating the monster.
Return to Sanctuary and meet with Tannis to give her the key fragment. Go to the bridge and listen to the conversation with Rhys and Lilith.
You need to travel to Neon Arterial. Return to the Meridian Metroplex region on Promethea. Your destination can be reached by car. This will greatly facilitate defeating all enemies guarding the pathway to the neighboring location.. Talk to Zer0 and wait for him to "cut down" the force field. This will allow you to enter Neon Arterial.
Talk to Maya. You can now traverse a large portion of Neon Arterial. To do so, use Project DD - a unique vehicle delivered by Ellie. During the ride, you can attack opponents (and destroy sniper towers), other vehicles, or simply focus on driving and avoiding such threats. The route forks in several places, but all branches eventually lead to the same place.
In several places, you will be forced to defend the nearby area. During this phase, watch out for "levitating" mines which should be best destroyed from a larger distance. Fortunately, ground mines are harmless. After winning such battle, park the car in the designated place so that Maya can open the gate leading forward.
Once you reach the vending machines at Apollyon Transit Station, you will need to get out of the car and continue on foot. Soon, you'll start to encounter opponents. Watch out for Enforcers. Try to attack them when they are fighting your allies or when you see spots unguarded by their huge shields. Watch out for Badass, enemies known for their ability to easily defeat your hero.
Soon after crossing through Green Diamond Platform, you will start to encounter Guardians. If possible, attack them in order and watch out for their stronger versions (Possessed).
Continue exploring the caves until you reach The Forgotten Basilica. Once you find yourself in the new location, use the nearby vending machines to replenish your supplies, especially that soon you'll be facing a strong boss.
Enter the large hall and place the key on the pedestal. This action will begin an encounter with a giant boss - The Rampager.
The battle with Rampager consists of three phases. During the first phase, Rampager focuses on attacks that use the fire element. The boss can perform long jumps concluded with hitting the ground with great force and sending fireballs in all directions. You can try to avoid the fireballs or reach elevations at the sides of the arena.
The boss can also spit fireballs - in such cases focus on strafing. There are four large columns in the area. Use them while you can because they will be consistently destroyed by the boss.
After you deal enough damage to Rampager, you will receive a message from Maya saying that the boss is temporarily vulnerable. Use the strongest weapons (for example, shotgun or a grenade launcher) and fire at the boss who is lying on the ground, completely vulnerable.
Of course, Rampager attacks can easily knock down your hero. If that happens, prepare a good medium distance weapon and wait for the appearance of Guardians, who can be used to activate Second Wind, a skill that can revive your hero. It's also theoretically possible that Maya can resurrect you, but unfortunately, she's usually busy attacking the boss.
Guardians also appear when Rampager attempts to climb the edges of the arena. If possible, it is best to ignore them, in order to have a target ready in case of being knocked down. After climbing to the top shelf, the Rampager always performs a long jump concluded with sending projectiles to all sides.
Once a boss loses 1/3 of his health bar, he becomes temporarily invulnerable and begins to transform. Avoid attacking him, use the time to regenerate your shields or look for ammo.
From the start of the second phase, Rampager will destroy large pillars, making them unusable as cover. Use those pillars which are still standing to avoid receiving serious damage.
During the second phase, Rampager uses a different element - acid. He can spit acid projectiles or send waves of projectiles after performing a long jump concluded with a powerful smash.
Try to fire at the boss constantly, without stopping and wait for moments when Rampager loses his strength and falls to the ground. When that happens, attack him with the most powerful weapons and skills.
The third phase begins after Rampager has only 1/3 of his health bar left. Same as before, he will transform - during that time, he will be completely invulnerable.
One of his most powerful attacks in this phase is a long jump followed by bombing targets below him and sending fireballs to the sides. You can avoid it by skillful strafing or simply running in the opposite direction.
The key to survival is to stay in constant motion because all the pillars are probably already destroyed. Also, avoid finding yourself underneath the boss. Remember, to use the best attacks after Rampager loses power.
The defeated boss will leave a lot of credits, eridium and valuable random loot. Go through the portal leading to the Vault of the Rampager. Go forward and reach the location of Eridian Resonator.
From now on, you can destroy purple crystals by performing melee attacks. Destroyed crystals will yield eridium bars (premium currency). Some crystals encompass chests - destroying them will allow you to plunder the chest itself which also contains valuable loot.
To complete the described quest, approach the largest eridium deposit and press the melee attack button to destroy it. Interact with the Lodestar terminal. Go back to the area where you fought the boss and watch the cut-scene.
Talk to Ava and then use the fast travel option to reach Sanctuary. Meet on the bridge with Lilith and other allies. Don't miss a secondary objective which involves talking to Ava in her cabin. Finally, talk to Lilith once again. Completing the quest is rewarded with xp, credits, Weapon Trinket, and a legendary SMG (only if you've talked to Ava). You'll also unlock a new storyline quest - Hammerlocked.
