Why does Borderlands 3 not work after selecting DirectX 12?
Unfortunately, this is one of the most serious problems experienced by users of the PC version. At the time of the preparation of this guide, the problem has not yet been solved by the developers. As a temporal workaround, you can launch the game after forcing DirectX 11. The method doesn't work in 100% but should help most users.
1) Navigate to the directory C:\Users\your_username\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
2) Locate this folder file GameUserSettings.ini
3) Open the mentioned .ini file with Notepad.
4) Find the section PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX12
5) Change it to PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX11
6) Save the changes and close Notepad.
The game should run properly in DirectX 11 mode.
Other technical problems
- The problem with matchmaking - You may be connected to a person who has made significant progress in the game. This can spoil your game and count quests you haven't done yet as completed. Until the problem is resolved, avoid matchmaking as much as possible. Try to play with friends or alone.
- The map doesn't want to open - The game may not respond to pressing the map button. Wait a few seconds until everything is loaded in the current location.
- Inventory screen in split-screen mode causes problems - This problem primarily concerns the consoles version. You can reduce the risk by limiting the use of inventory.
- The gameplay isn't fluid, despite the declared high number of frames in the game - This is a common problem on the PC. You need to wait for a patch or a new version of video card drivers.
- The number of frames drops dramatically when using a scope - Unfortunately, you have to wait for a patch, reduce the details or limit the use of weapons equipped with a scope.
- There are animation drops when switching between skill trees - This is a common problem for all versions. You need to wait for a patch.
- The console versions have a lag when aiming - You can try to reduce this problem in the control settings. Increase the control sensitivity to 8, decrease the default Deadzone and increase the FOV.
Can I skip the intro videos?
Unfortunately, no. You need to watch them every time you start the game.
How does Borderlands 3 work on PS4?
- The game works well on the basic models of PS4 console. The animation is displayed at 30 frames per second, although some slight fps drops may occur. You shouldn't experience huge framerate issues or game freezes.
- On PS4 Pro console, the game can cause problems in performance mode, which in theory should run at 60 frames per second. In fact, animation can sometimes drop to the value around 10 frames per second. We advise you not to use this mode until an appropriate patch is released and select the resolution mode.
- All PS4 versions experience occasional texture issues. It is better to wait a few seconds after starting the game or loading a new location.
- On consoles, Borderlands 3 requires approximately 39GB of free space.
- You don't need PlayStation Plus to run the game. You will need a PS+ subscription if you plan to play online. Local split-screen multiplayer is possible without a paid subscription.
