The latest game by Remedy, just like the original, allows players to choose the difficulty level. Depending on the skills and individual preferences, you can influence the challenge of fighting enemies or obtaining resources.

Basic difficulty levels

Alan Wake 2 allows you to choose one of 3 basic difficulty levels. These are:

1. Story;
2. Normal;
3. Hard.

Choosing one of the available options will primarily affect the combat challenge. At higher difficulty levels, removing the darkness from the Taken will take longer, and the enemies themselves will be able to take more hits. Their attacks will also hurt you more.

The difficulty level will also affect the frequency of resources you find during the game. Less ammunition supplies on the Hard difficulty will force players to manage their equipment much more cautiously.

Nightmare mode

Many fans of the series speculated whether the upcoming sequel will introduce the Nightmare difficulty level known from the original. The mode, unlocked after completing the game, offered a significant rise of challenge. At this level, it was possible to find previously unavailable manuscript fragments, and its completion was rewarded with a special achievement.

Analysis of available achievements in the pre-release version of the game does not indicate the presence of a special, hidden difficulty level. However, we will verify this after the game's release.

How to change the difficulty level?

When you start Alan Wake 2 for the first time, the game will ask you to choose one of the difficulty levels. This choice is not final - you can change your decision at any stage of the game.

If you decide that the difficulty level you have chosen does not suit you, go to the menu, and then select the "Difficulty level" option. From the tab level, you can freely change the difficulty. After changing it, close the menu and continue playing.
