Alan Wake 2: Best Weapon Upgrades Alan Wake 2 guide, walkthrough
Having trouble choosing the right upgrade for your weapons in Alan Wake 2? This guide will help you make the right decision.
Last update: 31 October 2023
In Alan Wake 2, you can upgrade chosen firearms to modify their performance and add new functionalities to them - this is done via an appropriate section in Mind Place. As you progress in the game, obtaining new weapons and finding special collectibles that serve as currency, you'll be able to gradually improve your firearms. On this page of the guide you'll find all necessary information regarding the weapon upgrading mechanic. We also list and categorize available upgrades, as some of them may drastically affect the performance and assumed playstyle with the weapon.
What is the best upgrade?
Choosing a 'best upgrade' for each weapon is not an easy task, as a lot depends on your chosen and assumed playstyle. Each weapon has a choice of available upgrades that may seriously affect its behavior and performance.
Many of the available upgrades will force you to assume a certain approach to combat, or will carry some additional restrictions that weren't previously there. For example, the "Again and Again" upgrade available for Saga's pistol will unlock auto-fire mode, but the new functionality may quickly deplete your already scarce ammunition supply.
For this reason, buying the more "exotic" upgrades we leave to the players ready for drastic changes to their playstyle. The remaining players will probably do better choosing more "universal" bonuses, such as extended magazine size or faster reload.
How to upgrade a weapon?
You can upgrade weapons by visiting the Mind Place. To open the upgrade screen, approach the bar or choose the appropriate tab - from here you can browse available upgrades. Switching between weapons is done by choosing their respective brochures.
The material serving as a currency to buy upgrades is Manuscript Fragments. These are found in the world inside Lunch Boxes. More on Lunch Boxes and their locations can be found on a dedicated page of the guide - Lunch Boxes.
Unfortunately, Manuscript Fragments are a rare and hard to come by resource. To not waste them, think every upgrade through.
Once you found an upgrade and have enough Manuscript Fragments to pay for it, choose the appropriate option. After a short cut-scene, the weapon will have the upgrade applied.
