Echoes are particularly interesting collectibles in Alan's story that expand the story's plot context. On this page of the guide you will find information on the locations of all of them.

Echoes are special, environmental interactions activated in specific, often important to the plot places. Activating an Echo (which are unique to Alan chapters) unlocks a voice-over by Alan that offers a different viewpoint to the events happening on the screen. Even if collecting Echoes doesn't give any advantage in gameplay, they are an interesting way of learning more about the story and the game's universe. Additionally, interacting with some of them is required to push the plot forward. On this page of our guide, we will help you locate and find all Echoes appearing in Alan's story in Alan Wake 2.

How to locate and activate Echoes?

New Echoes encountered in the world take the form of luminous circles paired with a shadowed shape. Combined, they resemble a solar eclipse. Unfortunately, finding them is not that evident, so you may need to strain your eyes to locate them all.

After locating the luminous circle, you need to position yourself at the right angle. Properly synchronized Echo should cover the dark circle with a bright dot, leaving a faint halo. When you're successful, both circles will disappear, and a voice-over will start.

Echo by the Billboard 1

The first Echo is found in north-eastern part of Dark Place New York. After passing through train tracks, turn right and climb the ladder. Follow the metal structure and place youself directly in front of a large "Cold Casey" billboard. This way you should locate the Echo easily.

The next Echo is found a bit further. On the roof where the Break Room is located, proceed toward a metal scaffolding. Circle it and use the ladder to climb to the top of the structure. Look in the direction of a large billboard and you should notice it.

Echo at Caldera Station

You will encounter this Echo right after entering the aforementioned metro station. It is to the left of the entrance. Activating this Echo is a story event necessary to push the plot forward.

Echo in Collapsed Tunnel 1

After reaching the Collapsed Tunnel area, look for the Echo by pointing the camera directly to the pile of rubble. To make it appear, you need to activate "Missing FBI Agent" plot element.

Echo in Collapsed Tunnel 2

Second Echo in Collapsed Tunnel is found in one of the side tunnels. The Echo will appear once you absorb the light.

Echo in Gasoline room

This Echo is found in room light in red near the tunnel with the burnt train.

Echo at Cult Altar

After reaching the final metro station and activating Summoning Ritual plot element, the Echo will appear on a painted wall above the Cult Altar.

Echo in the waiting room

You will find this Echo at the end of the waiting room, not far from the Break Room.

Echo of the golden tree

After returning to the Collapsed Tunnel and activating Torchbearers plot element, an Echo will appear connected to the tree drawn on the tunnel wall.

Echo in the tunnel with corpses

After your time in metro tunnels, the journey continues to a network of underground tunnels. Along the way, you should easily locate the Echo.

Echo in Caldera St. Plaza

After leaving the tunnels, the journey continues to Alan's old apartment. The next Echo is in the hall of the apartment building.

While following the path laid by rooftops along the way to Oceanview Hotel, one of the billboards seen away will activate the next Echo for you.

After reaching the hotel entrance and the nearby bar, look up to notice a billboard. Look straight ahead.

Echo in the corridor before room 665

After reaching Oceanview Hotel and meeting Zane, further away in the corridor before room 665, an Echo will appear.

After taking the elevator to the ground floor of the hotel, you can find an Echo in the lobby which is activated from the reception desk side.

Echo in room 202

While solving the ritual murder mystery at the Oceanview Hotel, you will find yourself in room 202 (Rehearsal Room). After selecting the "Pre-Show Ritual" scene, you will find Echo in the central part of the room.

Echo in the ballroom

You activate this Echo in the hotel ballroom, looking from the perspective of the stage. However, you will need to activate the "Haunted" scene.

Echo in the stairwell

At the end of the hotel sequence, the game will take you to the building's staircase. The next Echo is almost at the top of the stairs.

Echo in room 666

After reaching room 666, a place with a dark past, this Echo will be waiting for you further the room.

Echo in the hotel lobby 2

After escaping from the Dark Presence from room 666 and returning to the first floor of the hotel, you will find another Echo in the lobby.

Echo in front of the Oceanview hotel

After completing the section in the hotel, another Echo will be waiting right in front of the building's main entrance.

Echo at the intersection

After picking up Alice's photos from the basement of the TV studio, go to the intersection of Wheeler St and Ocean Ave. Looking north, you will see another Echo.

Echo in front of the cinema

 

When you reach Poet's Cinema, you will get a new memory right outside the entrance.

Echo on the balcony of the cinema

After entering the cinema, head to the balcony overlooking the snack stand. Looking at the entrance from above, you will spot an Echo.

Echo in the wardrobe

After changing the scene, you will gain access to a room resembling a dressing room. Inside you will find another, important plot-wise Echo.

Echo in the cinema room

After entering the screening room, stand with your back to the screen. Looking deeper into the room, you will activate an Echo.

Echo in the backyard

Another echo can be found in a small room behind the row of seats in the cinema hall. However, make sure you have activated "The Cult of the Word" scene.

Echo in the dark alley

When the game leads you to the dark alley next to the cinema, activate the scene "New York's Finest" and look towards the garbage chute. You will listen to a conversation between corrupt police officers.

Echo on the roof of the cinema

This Echo is on the roof of the cinema next to the neon letters. Finding it is necessary to make progress in the story.

Echo in the room with a projector

During the black and white sequence with the Grandmaster, one of the rooms filled with tapes will contain another Echo.

Echo at the exit of the cinema

At the very end of the cinema sequence, you will find another Echo in the main hall.

Echo on the Billboard in front of the cinema

The last of the Echoes at the billboard is located opposite the cinema. To activate it, head to the eastern wall of the cinema building. Climb the ladder there and look towards the advertisement.
