The second location in Silent Hill 2 Remake, Wood Side Apartments, ends with a puzzle. To get out of the building you have to open the desk at the reception - this requires three coins. We described how to obtain them on a separate guide page. On this page, you will learn how to open the desk and in which slots to place coins.
Each puzzle in the game has three variants depending on the chosen level of puzzle difficulty. You choose it at the beginning of the game and you cannot change it later. The puzzle below was solved on the recommended, normal difficulty level.
About the puzzle
The puzzle involves the reception desk. There are six slots in the desk, five in a straight line and one right in the middle, above them. There is an image of the moon above the first hole on the left, a tree above the third, and the sun above the fifth. On top of the desk are the words of a poem, which serve as a clue to the puzzle.
To open the desk you must place the coins in the appropriate slots, with the correct side up, according to what the poem tells you. You have three coins, and each of them has two sides:
- Silver coin with the image of a man. There is a blade on its reverse.
- Gold coin with the image of a woman. There is a grave on its reverse.
- Bronze coin with the image of a snake. There is a flower on its reverse.
Once the coins are placed correctly in the desk, the next part of the poem will appear. You will have to move the coins to other slots. You can also rotate the placed coins, which the puzzle occasionally requires. Repeat this several times until you reach the end of the poem and thus open the desk.
How to open the desk?
The slots will be named according to their order from the left side - for example, the middle slot will be called the third slot, and the one on the right side of the desk will be called the fifth slot.
Place the coins as follows after reading the first verse:
- Silver coin: first slot, man side up,
- Gold coin: third slot, woman side up,
- Bronze coin: fifth slot, flower side up.
Place the coins as follows after the second verse:
- Silver coin: second slot, blade side up,
- Gold coin: fourth slot, woman side up,
- Bronze coin: fifth slot, flower side up.
Place the coins as follows after the third verse:
- Silver coin: third slot, man side up,
- Gold coin: fourth slot, grave side up,
- Bronze coin: fifth slot, snake side up.
By the fourth verse you must decide who is responsible for the woman's death. Move the brown coin to the sixth slot above the remaining ones, with the snake side facing up.
