Silent Hill 2 Remake contains only a few types of enemies (not counting the unique bosses) that you will encounter throughout the game. On this guide page we have listed all the enemies in the game, their attacks and how to fight them.
Lying Figure
The basic and most common enemies in the game, encountered from beginning to end. They resemble armless, humanoid figures trapped in straitjackets. They have two attacks: a head strike (they lean back and then deliver a blow) and corrosive vomit (they lean forward and start vomiting straight ahead, freezing for a few seconds in place). They can also crawl along the ground on their stomach (they are then much faster and will try to headbutt you while lying down).
When fighting one of them at a time use melee attacks. Attack once or twice, then dodge to the side waiting for the enemy to make a move. After successfully dodging, continue fighting. If you get too greedy and land too many blows, your opponent may end up dealing you unnecessary damage. If you're fighting multiple enemies simultaneously or don't have much room to maneuver, you can use the pistol. These enemies are not dangerous enough to waste ammunition for more powerful weapons on them.
In the Blue Creek Apartments you'll encounter a new variation of the Lying Figure, characterized by red skin and iron stuck in its body. It fights exactly like the basic variant. The only difference is that when it dies, it spits out a cloud of acid. Move away from them right after you kill them or finish them off with a gun to avoid injury.
Creeper
Small insects that crawl on the floor and bite you when you get close to them. Very simple enemies that pose almost no threat. While spotting them may be problematic, listening to the radio should be enough to locate them. A single melee hit is usually enough to take them out if you land it before they bite you.
Mannequin
Enemies consisting of two pairs of legs sewn together, which sometimes try to blend in with the surroundings. Unlike Lying Figures, they can only attack by kicking. They make up for this with their ability to avoid melee attacks. Fight them in the same way as Lying Figures, dealing only a few attacks in a row. If an enemy dodges your attack, they will immediately counterattack, so be ready to dodge. When fighting with several at once, you can use the pistol.
In Toluca prison you will start encountering new variations of Mannequins. They walk on all fours like spiders and can climb walls, jumping down on you from great heights. You can shoot them off the wall with the handgun or listen for the distinctive cry they make just before they attack. If you manage to dodge, the opponent will lie on the ground for a moment, giving you the perfect opportunity to kill it with the steel pipe.
Bubblehead Nurse
Nurses wielding steel pipes. They are very dangerous, have a lot of health, can block your attacks and can use combos. However, they do not have any ranged attacks. The best weapon against them is the handgun - melee combat is dangerous, and unlike other enemies in the game, nurses have a weak point. Shoot them in the heads - three headshots with a pistol are enough to kill them. If you get cornered by several nurses at once, it's worth using a shotgun - a single headshot at close range will eliminate them.
Occasionally, you may also come across nightmarish nurses studded with iron, wielding knives instead of pipes. They are not much different from regular nurses, so the strategy against them remains the same.
Mandarin
Enemies with huge hands that hang from bars. You encounter them for the first time in the Otherworld South Vale. They appear only in rooms with grates instead of floors. They attack by moving under the floor and grabbing James when he is directly above them.
It is best to avoid and ignore these enemies. The rooms they appear in are usually wide, making it easy to pass by them. When walking on bars, watch your step and you should never be surprised.
