Silent Hill 2 Remake: All endings Silent Hill 2 Remake guide, walkthrough

Silent Hill 2 Remake have eight endings, the acquisition of which is linked to your behavior throughout the game. On this page of the guide we have described all the endings in the game and how to get them.

Last update: 17 October 2024

Silent Hill 2 Remake features eight endings - six of them are taken from the original game and two of them are completely new. Only three of them are available in the first playthrough. The remaining five are exclusive to New Game Plus. There are no decisions involved in obtaining the three main endings—instead, certain actions you take throughout the game secretly grant you points that increase your chances of obtaining a specific ending. On this guide page we have listed all eight endings, how the story ends there and how to obtain them.

This page contains heavy plot spoilers.

Following the steps below only increases your chances of achieving a specific ending. Some internet users report that despite meeting all the requirements, they received a different ending than the one they were trying to achieve. The ending system is unclear and non-obvious, and you cannot in any way check your progress towards specific endings.

Leave

Here are things you should (or should not) do to get this ending:

  1. Heal immediately after taking damage and don't spend a lot of time with low health;
  2. Frequently examine Mary's photo and Mary's letter in your inventory;
  3. Do not examine Angela's knife in your inventory;
  4. Do not visit Maria in the hospital and the Labyrinth;
  5. Don't read the graffiti at Neely's Bar in South Vale (Otherworld);
  6. Listen to the entire argument in the long hallway after defeating the Pyramid Heads at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld).

Defeat the final boss at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). In this ending, James gets to have the final conversation with the vision of Mary, who forgives him for his actions. James decides to move on with his life and adopts Laura, leaving Silent Hill.

In Water

Here are things you should (or should not) do to get this ending:

  1. Neglect your health, delay healing and spend a lot of time with low health;
  2. Examine Angela's knife in your inventory;
  3. Do not visit Maria in the hospital and the Labyrinth;
  4. Read the graffiti at Neely's Bar in South Vale (Otherworld);
  5. Listen to the entire argument in the long hallway after defeating the Pyramid Heads at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld).

Defeat the final boss at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). In this ending, James experiences a final conversation with the vision of Mary, who forgives him for his actions. However, James is unable to forgive himself and kills himself by driving his car into the Toluca Lake.

Maria

Here are things you should (or should not) do to get this ending:

  1. Heal immediately after taking damage and don't spend a lot of time with low health;
  2. Do not examine Mary's photo and Mary's letter in your inventory;
  3. Do not examine Angela's knife in your inventory;
  4. Check on Maria in the hospital and the Labyrinth;
  5. Interact with Maria often and listen to her suggestions;
  6. Don't read the graffiti at Neely's Bar in South Vale (Otherworld);
  7. Leave the hallway before the argument ends after defeating the Pyramid Heads in the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld).

Defeat the final boss at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). In this ending, James's selfish desires prove to be stronger than his guilt and he rejects Mary, taking Maria with him and leaving Silent Hill. As punishment, the town gives Maria the same disease that Mary suffered from, forcing them both to experience the same pain once again.

Rebirth

This ending is available only in New Game Plus. To unlock it, you must collect four items:

  1. The Crimson Ceremony book, found in the graveyard right after you meet Angela for the first time;
  2. White Chrism, found outside the Baldwin Mansion in western South Vale, after meeting Maria;
  3. Obsidian Goblet, found at the Historical Society in South Vale (Otherworld),
  4. The Lost Memories book, found behind a cracked wall at Cafe Toluca at the Lakeview Hotel.

Defeat the final boss at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). If you have collected all four items, you will see the Rebirth ending instead of Leave, In Water or Maria. James takes Mary's corpse to the middle of the Toluca Lake and attempts to revive her with an occult ritual. The game ends before we see its effects.

Dog

This ending is available only in New Game Plus. Here's what you have to do to unlock it:

  1. Collect a Broken Key Part from the Pet Center store during your first visit to eastern South Vale;
  2. Collect another Broken Key Part from the shack in the yard of the house next to Jacks Inn during your first visit to western South Vale,
  3. Combine both parts to create a Dog Key;
  4. At the Lakeview Hotel, instead of going into room 312, open the observation room right next door with the Dog Key.

You will receive the ending upon entering the observation room, thus skipping the last area in the game. James will fall to his knees, wailing in broken Polish as he comes face to face with the creature responsible for his suffering in Silent Hill - Mira, a Shiba Inu.

UFO

This ending is available only in New Game Plus. Here's what you have to do to unlock it:

  1. Collect the Blue Gem from the Jeweller's store next to Big Jay's during your first visit to East South Vale;
  2. Use the Blue Gem by the eye painting, near the ladder that you used to leave the Saul Street Apartments, in East South Vale;
  3. Use the Blue Gem by the eye painting, on the pier, where you first meet Maria in West South Vale;
  4. Use the Blue Gem by the eye painting on the pier right after reaching the Lakeview Hotel;
  5. Use the Blue Gem in room 312 at the Lakeview Hotel instead of starting the videotape.

The ending cutscene will trigger right there, in room 312, meaning you'll skip the last area of the game. James will encounter aliens and PlayStation2 James, and he will find out that he is just a clone. PS2 James will take the place of remake James, who will be abducted by aliens.

Stillness

This ending is available only in New Game Plus. Here's what you have to do to unlock it:

  1. Get the chainsaw from the Silent Hill Ranch;
  2. Smash the window of the green car behind the tunnel and mesh door on the trail to Silent Hill (you need the chainsaw because you can't come back here once you collect the wooden plank) and collect the Key of Sorrow;
  3. Open the wooden safe in the manager's office with use of a key and a code (314). The safe is in the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). Once opened, grab the postcard.

Defeat the final boss at the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). If you have collected the postcard, you will see this ending. This is a variation of the In Water ending - just before his suicide, James sees and speaks to a vision of Mary.

Bliss

This ending is available only in New Game Plus. Here's what you have to do to unlock it:

  1. Collect the bloody memo at the very end of Nathan Avenue on your first visit to West South Vale;
  2. Use the code from the memo to open the safe at Pete's Bowl-O-Rama in West South Vale and get the Rusted Key;
  3. Get the Small Chest from the gazebo in the garden of the Brookhaven Hospital and combine it with the Rusted Key to obtain a bottle of White Claudia;
  4. Use the bottle of White Claudia in room 312 at the Lakeview Hotel before starting the video tape;
  5. Start the videotape.

The ending cutscene will trigger right there, in room 312, meaning you'll skip the last area of the game. The drink will transport James into the tape. James will leave the real world, living together with Mary inside the tape.
