Main uses for workbenches

You'll find more information about upgrading equipment on the Upgrading and modifying weapons page - Dead Island 2: All Workbenches - Secrets and Collectibles - Dead Island 2 Guide
  1. Workbenches are first unlocked during the Call the Cavalry main quest, which starts in Emma's Estate in Bel-Air. All found workbenches will be inactive until you complete the mission.
  2. Each workbench does the same thing, so you don't ever need to visit a specific one. It's still worthwhile to visit each one at least once though, as there are free blueprints near some workbenches, which can be added to your collectibles collection. Blueprints can also be acquired and purchased - the more you have, the more options will be available at workbenches.
  3. The main use for workbenches is to upgrade and modify weapons. To do so, you need a blueprint and specific crafting ingredients. You can also repair weapons and level them up, though it requires a lot of cash.
  4. You can also craft consumables, such as ammo and med kits. To do so, you still need blueprints and crafting ingredients.
  5. The game can temporarily block your access to the workbenches if there are any zombies nearby. Get rid of them to unlock the workbench again.

You'll find more information about upgrading equipment on the Upgrading and modifying weapons page.
