Dead Island 2 offers a variety of melee and ranged weapons differing in, e.g. Weapon Rarity. On this page of the guide you will find a list of all rarity levels, information on how rarity affects the characteristics of a particular weapon, and hints on how to find rare weapons (including legendary ones).
Weapon rarity
Dead Island 2 features 6 levels of weapon rarity:
- Improvised - These are the weakest weapons, with low stats and low durability.
- Common - They are marked in white.
- Uncommon - They are marked in green.
- Rare - They are marked in blue.
- Superior - They are marked in purple.
- Legendary - They are marked in orange.
All weapons can be leveled up to level 30. The current level of a weapon affects its base statistics (e.g. attack).
How weapon rarity affects its stats
Rare weapons have more slots for weapon perks:
- 2 perk slots for uncommon weapons;
- 3 perk slots for rare weapons;
- 4 perk slots for superior and legendary weapons.
It should be noted that some slots have Fixed Perks - they are locked and you cannot change them. Similarly, there may be a slot for a weapon mod - it can already have a mod and be locked or let you choose one.
Finding rare weapons
The rarity of the items changes gradually as you progress through the game. In the first hours of the game you have to use common and uncommon weapons, but over time rare and superior ones will start to appear more and more often (as loot, rewards and at stores).
Legendary items can't be found as random loot. You can only receive them as quest rewards.
Weapons with unique names
As you progress through the game, you can earn unique named weapons and they are mostly rewards for completed quests. These items cannot be removed - the game blocks the option to sell and dismantle them. They can have unique base statistics, but you can upgrade them further.
