Mission 09: ODYSSEUS | Missions: Challenges CoD: BO II Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Make sure to bring a sniper rifle (or the Storm PSR Gun Special of the Special section if you unlocked it) and EMP grenades.
Locate Gift in Masons State Room
At the beginning of the mission, when you are armed and go out into the hallway (there's a turret on the ceiling), use the first entrance on the right. Exactly in front of you there will be a door that you should open (first picture above). Take a piece of paper from the chest of drawers (second picture above), which will mean passing the challenge.
Incapacitate Enemy Personnel (x20) using Combatant Suppression Knuckles
As soon as you get out of the interrogation room at the beginning of the mission and you have to arm yourself, look at the desk on the left. There is a chest there, with a word Access (picture above). Open it to take combatant suppression knuckles. Unlike in the previous missions, when you rarely used melee, here, on the ship, among the narrow corridors and alleys, it will be the other way round.
What is more - there are several places that ensure a smooth challenge passing even on Veteran difficulty level. When you split with Salazar and step outside, clear the corridor on the right, but don't kill the last enemy in one of the cabins on the right. Hide behind the boxes on the left in the corridor (first picture above) and kill your ally if there is any behind you, because he will only disturb you (second picture above).
Start to walk near the abovementioned boxes. Every few seconds a single opponent will be running into the corridor (first picture above), and you only need to hide behind the boxes and wait for him to come running straight to you. Hit him to incapacitate him (second picture above). Repeat the action until you see the message about passing the challenge.
Provide Sniper Overwatch for SEAL Team Advance across Flight deck
This challenge is part of the mission, so you can't miss it. Your task is to eliminate opponents, and if you want to pass the challenge, you have to do it quickly. They will be climbing the stairs at the end of the landing field on the left and right (first and second picture above) and hiding behind the line of crates and barrels. Bullets will fly through some of the covers, so keep that in mind. The allied SEALs will attack from your side and they are the ones you need to protect. Look around the abovementioned line and then keep looking at the stairs on the left and right. The more enemies you kill, even before they have a chance to hide, the better. Remember to hold the hold breath button before each shot, which will greatly improve your accuracy. If you still can't manage to do this challenge, get better weapons - a Storm PSR of the Special category will greatly facilitate passing the challenge, as it allows you to shoot through covers and also highlights the targets.
Eliminate Enemy Personnel (x10) with Security Turret
When you split with Salazar and step outside, clear the corridor on the right. Kill all the enemies and then open the half-open door on the left. Destroy the turret to the right and kill the enemies in a short hallway, then use the first entrance on the right. Go forward and look left. You should notice a security box with a word Access (picture above). Quickly run up to it and press the use button.
First, kill the ones you can see (picture above). Pay particular attention to the orange-lit door on the left - that's where your character is standing, so if you see any enemy there, make sure to kill him. Then make the turret make a 180-degree turn. Deal with the rest of the enemies behind the tables and chairs. New ones will be running through the door on the left and right (second picture above), so you don't need to worry that you'll run out of them. Shoot until you get the message that you passed the challenge. But don't overheat the turret! Take half-second breaks between the rounds.
If the enemies somehow managed to destroy the first turret, there's another one. You'll access it after you've entered one of the rooms (exactly opposite the entrance to this room there are stairs you'll use to get downstairs). Use the security box with a word Access (first picture above), and then pass the challenge with the second turret (second picture above).
Destroy Security Turret (x3) while Disabled
To even be able to pass this challenge, make sure to bring the EMP grenades. Each turret you'll come across should be treated in the same way - first throw an EMP grenade and shoot with the sniper rifle. Remember that when throwing an EMP grenade it's very easy to get hit with interference. Still, it's not that terrible. Since you have only three grenades, each of them must be used - you can't, for example, use two on one turret.
The first turret will be at the beginning of the mission, when you open the door after arming yourself (picture above).
The second will be a bit further, when you split with Salazar, go outside, defeat enemies and go back inside. It will be just around the corner on the right, in the short corridor (picture above).
When you protect the SEALs and go down to the room below, clear it and then go down the next stairs, the third turret will be in the long hallway to the right (picture above).
And finally, you'll find the fourth when looking through the door to the room, in front of which there are stairs leading to the top (you will go down them). In this room there's also a security box to the second turret you can use. You will see the one you need to disable and destroy through the window (picture above).
Eliminate Airborne Enemies (x8) before they Land
When you split with Salazar and step outside, clear the corridor on the right. Kill all the enemies so that no one disturbs you. Go back to the balcony and look at the board. You should see a few spots at which enemy soldiers are arriving in jetpacks and then opening their parachutes (picture above).
Now you have to kill eight enemies before they land. Aiming at them when they're flying can be difficult, so it's best to try to shoot them when they're opening the parachutes and during their landing (for a few seconds) (first picture above). Contrary to appearances, an ordinary assault rifle will prove much more useful here than the sniper one, simply because the targets are moving too fast. You should be able to also see if you managed to hit or not - after you've killed an airborne enemy his jetpack should explode. Kill the airborne enemies until the message about passing the challenge appears on the screen (second picture above).
Direct CLAW to eliminate Enemy Personnel (x5)
This challenge excludes the one below. When near the end of the mission you use a big elevator to get on board of the aircraft carrier, immediately go left, to the small building. After a while, there should be a word Access on it (picture above). Go up the stairs and move the rubble to get inside. Mason will run the CLAW, which will appear in front of you. It will be coming its own way, but you can mark targets for it. You have to kill five enemies this way.
It will be easy because the enemies appear on the board endlessly - all you need to do is to be sharp. With a bit of luck, you will pass the challenge not even leaving the small building. Here, at least, you're safe and it's easy to look for targets (picture above). If it did not happen like this and the CLAW went too far, simply move along with it and look for opponents. But do not confuse them with your allies.
Get to Extraction in under 90 Seconds
A very easy challenge, but it excludes the one above. It's best to do it, as well as any other when the time is involved, on Recruit level. The counter starts when near the end of the mission a big elevator takes you on board of the aircraft carrier. Try to immediately kill the soldiers there and then just run as fast as you can to the target. Kill only these enemies who stand in your way. If you want to make the escape even easier, use the smoke grenades (picture above).
Collect intel (x3)
See the "Intel" section or the description of a mission walkthrough to discover where you can find intel in this mission. Collect it all to pass the challenge.
100% survivability rating
An easy mission to play on Recruit. The enemies will rarely throw grenades at you and you do not have to worry that you'll fail if you kill any of the allied troops. The only thing you have to watch out for are the opponents' blows - taking the level design (lots of tight corners) into account it's very easy to die in this way.
