Mission 08: ACHILLES' VEIL | Missions: Challenges CoD: BO II Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Attention! Make sure to take a machinegun (Light Machinegun), it will help you in a number of challenges. Take the EMP grenades as well.
Destroy enemy quad drones (x20)
Make sure to take a machine gun with some attachments (e.g., Enhanced Clip, increased rate of fire, scope). The quad-drones will be attacking in groups at several occasions, and each time try to destroy as many of them as possible.
The first opportunity will be at the very beginning of the mission. If you play on Recruit level, you do not even have to get down from the stage, because the quad-drones will not be able to kill you. Simply shoot at them as much as possible (picture above) before your allies take them out. There will be a lot of quad-drones here, about 10. Most will fly in front of the stage, and there are a few behind the gate where the first fight is taking place.
The second opportunity will be just after you've seen a plane crash and run into the door to the left of its cockpit. Hide by the next door and simply shoot at the quad-drones flying here and there (picture above). With a bit of luck, you will kill at least a few. If you play on Recruit level, then nothing stops you from getting out of concealment - thanks to that the chance of missing any quad-drone will be smaller and it will prevent your allies from destroying it.
The third opportunity is the last fight you'll have as Farid - namely, the courtyard connected to the street divided by the ramp. As soon as you run into the courtyard, destroy the ASD, then hide behind the boxes on the right and begin to eliminate the enemy quad-drones from there (picture above). Also see the description of the challenge about destroying eight quad-drones with the turret.
The last chance will be when, playing as Mason, you receive a message that the command takes away the quad-drones from you. Only then, the ones you have (with green light) will be joined by the enemy ones (with red light). It is worth to notice the two turned off quad-drones. One will be hovering (picture above) near the two soldiers on the roof of the building with the third intel. The other one is somewhere among the rocks on the left.
The majority of them will be by the building next to the bridge (first picture above), some will also be at the gate to the citadel (second picture above). If you are careful and accurate, you'll easily shoot 20 quad-drones on this level.
Eliminate enemy personnel (x20) with sword
You will combine this challenge with the one below and it's best to perform both on Recruit level. First you need to get the sword. At the beginning of the mission come down from the stage and run up to the left wall, then look straight ahead - you should notice an umbrella. Run straight ahead, and finally a word Access will appear on the cabinet at a dead end (picture above). Open it to get the sword.
Now all you need to do is to kill enemies in melee till you get the message about passing the challenge (picture above). You have the whole mission to do it, so don't take any unnecessary risks and do not thrust yourself into the groups of many enemies. Their shots won't do much damage, however, their blows can easily knock you down even on Recruit level. All enemies count in this challenge - it doesn't matter if you kill them as Farid, or as Mason. If you are dealing with a group of enemies, it's best to run up to one and then quickly hide. The interior of the apartments will especially create favorable conditions to pass this challenge.
Melee enemy personnel (x20) while using optical camo
You will combine this challenge with the one above and it's best to perform both on Recruit level. First you need to get the optical camouflage. At the beginning of the mission, come down from the stage and run to the entrance to the right of the main gate. Turn right and then immediately left, on the stairs. Go to the very top. The optical camo will be in the box in the middle of the room (picture above).

Remember to always have optical camo on!
Destroy enemy quad drones (x8) with turret
This challenge can be combined with the first one, which involves the destruction of 20 quad-drones by any means. Attention! Before you go to the turret, make sure that the area is mostly cleared of enemies. If it's not the case, your turret can quickly be destroyed before you can pass the challenge. Secondly, the more enemy fire, the more interference on the turret screen that makes aiming more difficult. The progress in retaking the area will be determined by the presence of your allies in specific places. They at least have to be on one side of the exit, as well as on the terrace above the ramp.
As Farid you'll get to the courtyard, where the first ASD will come. After a while the VTOLs will drop off a squad of soldiers. After clearing this area go through the right gate (first picture above) and stick to the right wall. Of course, watch out for enemies! After a while you'll get to the gate with a word Access. Open it (second picture above).
After opening the gate go the only possible way to the balcony, lie down by the turret and press the use button to start shooting. Look out for the quad-drones and take them out (picture above). If there's interference on the screen, it means that someone is shooting at you - maybe a quad-drone is flying somewhere and you can't see it. If you do not see any quad-drones, just wait for a while. They will be appearing until your allies take control of the whole place.
Eliminate enemy personnel (x5) by exploding vehicles
Make sure to take a machinegun with some attachments (e.g., Enhanced Clip, increased speed of fire, scope), which will make destroying the vehicles faster. At the beginning of the mission, when you get to the tower with the intel and optical camouflage, get at the scaffolding through the window. Start looking at the battlefield, and if at least one opponent stands by one of the cars, immediately destroy the vehicle (picture above).
If no enemy is by the vehicle, then wait patiently until one stands there. You can destroy at least a few vehicles from the scaffolding. You will hit the ones that are further away by standing on the left side of the scaffolding (two are in one line) (picture above).
In the courtyard there is yet another vehicle but you won't be able to hit it from this position. You need to get to the left side of the courtyard, and then look exactly to the right. Stand against a wall and shoot at the vehicle facing you (picture above). At this point, with a little luck, you should have already passed this challenge.
If, however, this did not happen, you will have a second place with a few vehicles. Yet, the problem is that this place is also the action area when it comes to other challenges. The vehicles are in the big square with the road leading down just in front of the door, which will end your game as Farid. It's best to destroy the vehicles with the turret (picture above). See the description of the above challenge for detailed information about how to get to it.
Destroy enemy ASD (x4) while disabled
To even be able to pass this challenge, make sure to bring the EMP grenades. A machinegun will also be useful. When playing as Farid you enter the long terrace, you will have to get to its right side. At the end of the terrace, turn left. You should find some ammo crates (there will be a soldier lying on the right) (picture above). It is very important because this is where you can refill EMP grenades. Right after that you'll get to a small courtyard joined with a big street. There are about 5 to 6 ASDs.
One ASD will appear just on the very small courtyard. Throw an EMP grenade at it (picture above), and then take out the machinegun and shoot the robot until it explodes. Unless you want to be tricky and try to turn off two robots with one grenade, simply go back near the ammo crates to take three EMP grenades again.
The trouble with the next ASDs is that they're surrounded by a lot of enemies, and they - even on Recruit level - can harm you not as much as with shots, but with blows. Therefore, if you see an ASD, first try to clear the area, and then get rid of the robot. At least two ASDs will be near the rails above the ramp (first picture above). You can also search for ASDs between the cars on the right side (second picture above), and downstairs - at the ramp that divides the place in two parts.
Apart from that, there are the last two sure places with ASDs. You'll find the first robot on the other side of the ramp, opposite the gate connecting the courtyard with the street. It will be hanging around near the two palm trees (first picture above). The second robot is at the end of the blind alley on the right (second picture above), by the door that you need to open to get to Menedez.
Eliminate enemy personnel (x5) as VTOL gunner
You can only pass this challenge when you choose to shoot Menendez, not Harper. After the cutscene you'll be taken on VTOL board and you'll be able to wreak havoc with the VTOL turret. Start shooting immediately. You have to finish five enemies off - some are in the street next to the car (first picture above), the rest is hiding on the roofs on the left and right. Look out for enemies and kill them until you see the message that you passed the challenge (second picture above). It is not difficult, you just need to be alert and sharp for a short while.
Direct quad drones to eliminate enemy personnel (x25)
When you play as Mason, you will have quad-drones at your disposal. You must point and lead 25 enemies to die and you do it similarly to the way in the fifth mission when you were marking the targets for the CLAWs.
At the beginning you will not have many opportunities, but still, look out for enemies in the windows and on the roofs on the right side of the street, and also direct the quads into the buildings, through which you'll be passing on the left side of the street. It is best if you "fight" only with quad-drones during this part of the mission till the one described below (picture above). However, it will be difficult to kill some enemies this way (e.g. the one standing on the stairs in the building with intel). Use the rifle as a last resort.
When you get to the end of the street and you have a large building in front of you (picture above), make sure to use quad-drones to kill the enemies on the roof and on the balcony. Let your flying robots also kill the targets downstairs. Then clear the very building of enemies.
Right behind it, there is a quad-drone paradise - a lot of enemies in the open area (picture above). Mark the targets and hide. The challenge should be passed right here.
If it isn't, just continue to fight with quad-drones. There will be a lot of open areas and a lot of enemies, especially on the way to the building with the third intel (picture above). Simply keep fighting only with quad-drones until you get a message about passing the challenge. But as soon as you arrive in the vicinity of the very building, the command will make you no longer able to control the quad-drones. That's why, you need to pass the challenge before that.
Collect intel (x3)
See the "Intel" section or the description of a mission walkthrough to discover where you can find intel in this mission. Collect it all to pass the challenge.
100% survivability rating
This is not a difficult mission. Just be careful not to shoot at the allies, and also not fall into a group of enemies that can you beat you to death (their shots will not really harm you on Recruit level, but their blows will). Do not stand near the vehicles as you could get killed quickly when it explodes. When you play as Mason, also watch out for enemies with RPGs, as well as for grenades. However, there will not be that many of them and you will handle them - just be careful and if you see a grenade, run away as fast as possible.
