Read this page of the Valheim guide to learn more about crafting. Here you will find information on the crafting panel and equipment upgrades.
Crafting and upgrades
Crafting is a very important element of the game – your entire progress is based on it. By exploring subsequent biomes, you will gain resources and unlock new, more powerful schematics.
In the early stages of the game, the workbench is the key place for making things. It allows you to produce basic items and build wooden structures. If you want to put up a building, just build it and equip yourself with a hammer. However, you must remember that the range within which you can build is limited by the white circle.
If you want to use a workshop directly to create, repair, or improve an object, you will have to enclose it with walls and a roof.
As you progress through the game you will unlock access to a forge, which allows you to craft more advanced items such as metal armor and tools. However, this will also require building a smelter.
Crafting panel
When you interact with one of the workbenches above, you will open a dedicated crafting panel. There, you will find two tabs. The first one is for crafting [1]. This is where you can create new pieces of equipment. The other is for improving an existing item [2]. Additionally, there is also a button for repairing items [3].
Both tabs of this panel work in identical ways. Here you will find a list of all items you can make. You will also find a list of materials required to create them. If you do not have them, their value will be highlighted in red.
The workbench and forge need to be upgraded. This will give you access to more advanced items and enhancements. To level them up, you need to build specific constructions in their vicinity. You can find a list of these on a separate page of this guide.
