Skill Checks | Gameplay basics Torment: Tides of Numenera Guide
Last update: 28 February 2017
Torment: Tides of Numenera a lot of actions will require you to pass skill checks, as it used to be in board games where you had to roll a dice. In Torment: Tides of Numenera your success or failure is determined by your statistics, effort and luck.
They will usually take place during interaction with different objects and dialogues. Each skill check is based on one of three factors: Strength, Speed or Intelligence. The higher the level of a given ability, the easier it is to succeed. Every time we can choose the level of effort. It is associated with selecting (usually one of two) an option that directly affects our bars. It would be wise to take a look at our statistics. In the lower right corner you can see three bars representing Strength, Speed and Intelligence. At first the bars are full. However, you can spend points to use an ability or pass skill checks. Our bars will not refill until we get some rest, so use them carefully.
The more points of a certain ability we spend, the greater the chance to pass the check. One of the options is usually neutral, and the other one takes 2-3 points. In each case you will also see the potential likelihood of succeeding (the more the dot is situated to the right, the better the chance). It is essential to mention that in case of failure we are not always allowed to try again, and thus unable to perform specific actions.
