Experience System | Gameplay basics Torment: Tides of Numenera Guide
Last update: 28 February 2017
The experience system is a bit different from the one we could see in the original Torment. By default, each hero begins at Experience Tier 1. With further progress in the game, our Tier increases, resulting in means to upgrade our statistics, abilities, and skills.
Once you gather enough experience, a pulsing, blue lining will appear at character portrait. It symbolizes that the character can gain new level. When you get to the advance screen, you will have a choice. You can improve your character by selecting one of the following options:
- Increase stat pools - you can assign two points to your stats: Might, Speed, and Intellect. The character will become more skilled in the selected area and you will be able to use more points in combat or in dialogues.
- Increase Edge - edge provides boost to all actions and challenges that use the selected pool. For each edge point you can perform an additional effort level for free. Edge also reduces ability cost, making some abilities free. You can add edge to Might, Speed, and Intellect.
- Ability or skill - you can improve the available ability, thus increasing its accuracy by 15% per level. You can also select a new ability to learn, making it more effective.
- Extra effort - increasing the maximum effort level will enable you to spend more effort points during an action. It is very useful, since you can spend more points on attack in order to, for example, increase weapon damage.
You must improve your character in each area, so choose abilities and stat pools wisely. Our hero receives access to a new Tier after ascending to the fourth advancement level. Each Tier unlocks new abilities, skills, and statistics. As can easily be imagined, we gather experience points through completing tasks and emerging victorious in combat.
