Basic information

The structure of the main storyline in NieR Automata is quite unusual. The game consists of different routes, during which you control different main characters. The routes differ from each other, even if the differences aren't always major. You need to start from Route A.

When playing through a Route you can finish main quests to advance to the subsequent chapters, or, if you wish, the side quests which unlock while you advance the main storyline.

Some of the side quests are missable. Initially, you won't be able to do anything about it, although in the endgame you unlock chapter select, allowing you to get back to the quests you've missed.

The game has major and minor endings, with the latter being unlocked while you progress through the game. We have, of course, included them in our walkthrough.
