Getting gold (G)

Gold (in the inventory also called simply G) is the only currency in the world of NieR Automata. Below, you will find a list of the most important ways to obtain gold in the game.

The best way for large one-time cash injections are side quests. The vast majority of optional missions have gold as one of the rewards. For most quests, this is usually a few thousand pieces of gold, but bigger missions or those from the later part of the campaign can allow you to get 10000 or more gold.

The obvious way to get rich is selling unnecessary loot to the merchants from the game world. This is especially recommended for those items where you have already reached the limit of 99 objects in the inventory or are close to reaching the limit. However, there are two things you need to know when choosing this method:

1. You will be able to sell some items at better prices in the next stage of the campaign. Therefore, it's not worth selling the most expensive things early in the game; instead, keep them for later. Doing so is especially worth it, since you will not lose items from the inventory even after advancing to the next Route.
2. Some crafting components can only be used later, e.g. when a weapon or Pod advance to the next level. Finding more of the same materials to replace the sold ones can be problematic. As a result, we recommend that you avoid getting rid of more valuable crafting materials.

An underrated way to quickly get rid of larger amounts of credits can be fishing and selling the fish. This method is appealing primarily due to the fact that fishing is not particularly complicated in the game and does not take much time. More fish can be fished out of the tanks in the game at fairly short intervals and then sold for a good price at local merchants.

One of the least complicated ways to get more gold is collecting ordinary loot. We are talking primarily about objects "dropped" by defeated opponents, but you should also try to explore the environment to search for more loot. It is worth checking all kinds of chests or glowing objects on the ground. Even if you can't find gold, you may have some items for sale.

A smaller but equally interesting method may be retrieving other players' bodies. As a reminder, this refers to playing online, where you can come across the bodies of fallen players. After you click on the body, several interaction options appear. Selecting the Retrieve option can lead to random rewards, which may include gold. In most cases, this type of action will get you a small amount of money, but at random moments, retrieving a player's body can be rewarded with e.g. 1000-2000G for a few seconds of action.

Aside from choosing methods to get gold, you can also use techniques that increase your chances of getting rich faster. Here, we should mention the following things:

1. Consumables from the Luck group - After using this item, for a certain amount of time enemies can "drop" larger amounts of gold. Using such an item is a good idea before any major fight.
2. Chips from the Drop Rate Up group - After you install the chip, it will increase your chances of finding items dropped by the defeated opponents. If possible, purchase the best version of this chip (in the example from the second picture it is as much as 6 with an chance increase of 70%). Even if the enemies will leave unnecessary things behind, you can always sell them.

Spending money - the most important purchases

All gold collected in the first hours of the game you should, in our opinion, spend on Storage upgrades, which allow you to install more chips and thus use a large number of stat bonuses and unique skills.

As a reminder, to do so, you must visit e.g. the Maintenance Shop Owner in the Resistance Camp. Choose Storage items from his list, starting with the cheapest ones. For more information, see Chips - how to install?.

We don't advise spending gold on consumables because you should easily find them in the game world or get them by completing quests.

A good idea can definitely be to purchase high quality chips (at least with quality 3, optimally with quality 6 like the ones from the example in the picture). This will allow you to unlock powerful stat bonuses, and you may also have an opportunity to combine chips purchased in the store with chips of the same quality found in the game world.

You can also spend the gathered gold on upgrading weapons and pods in order to increase their statistics so that they can gain additional features. You must be aware, unfortunately, that aside from spending gold, these upgrades also require specific crafting materials. If you aren't in a hurry, then don't spend gold on crafting materials at various merchants; just wait until you get them over the course of the game (remnants of defeated opponents, loot from chests, rewards from quests, etc.).

If you want to complete the game in 100% you can also spend money consistently throughout all the campaign Routes on:

1. Buying weapons from merchants - they sell weapons that you can't get by exploring the area.
2. Transfering gold to the inventor from the Half-wit Inventor side quest - in order to complete the quest, you will have to give 180000G to the NPC, who at the very end will open a shop with very rare items.
