Last update: 19 August 2022

This chapter of the God of War guide is fully dedicated to the optional location of Niflheim. Here, you can learn how to unlock this realm, how to complete it in 100% and learn how to get "Mist Echoes".

How to reach Niflheim?

To get to Niflheim, you must complete a disk with a Niflheim cipher. The disc itself has been divided into four parts - you can find them in purple chests hidden in different parts of the game's world.

The first fragment can be found in the chest near the entrance to the summit in the Mountain location - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide

The first fragment can be found in the chest near the entrance to the summit in the Mountain location. You can come across this chest during "Return to the Summit" mission.

The second fragment is in Tyrs hidden chamber, behind the corridor full of crushing traps - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide

The last fragment is in Jormungandrs stomach, close to the chest with Mimirs eye - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide

Description of additional land

Niflheim is an optional realm available in God of War that can be reached at the end of the game. Below you can find the description of this land:

  1. A new bar appears at the top of the screen - a time that determines how long you can stay in the mist. When the time runs out, you will die and lose all the Mist Echoes you have acquired.

  1. Mist Echoes are a special currency and one of the key components of creating powerful equipment at Sindri. The dwarf can create e.g. very strong armors, which, in addition to significantly strengthening the statistics, offer a longer time of staying in the deadly mist.
The dwarf can give you three favours related to the exploration of Niflheim - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide

The dwarf can give you three favours related to the exploration of Niflheim:

  1. Ivaldi's Workshop, the first task is to get 500 Mist Echoes and create a stone entrance.
  2. Ivaldi's Protection, the second task requires you to acquire the necessary materials to create Niflheim Armour.
  3. Ivaldi's Curse, the last task is the longest - you have to close three rifts by paying with Mist Echoes (10,000, 15,000 and 20,000) each time.
Below you can find a few tips that will help you complete Niflheim in 100% - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide
  1. To get Mist Echoes and other valuable materials, you'll need to run through a labyrinth of traps and monsters.
  2. Each time, the layout of the rooms and the opponents are all different (that is, randomly generated with certain elements in common). Your task is to open small, red, Nornir and legendary chests - inside, you'll find the aforementioned Echoes and other useful items. Additionally, opening any of the chests will extend the timer a little bit.
  3. You must take the Mist Echoes to the start or to an unlocked room with rifts that you can close. This is the only way to assign them to Kratos. After that you can spend them as you wish.

How to complete Niflheim in 100%?

Below you can find a few tips that will help you complete Niflheim in 100%.

2 - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide
  1. Initially, you will be able to stay briefly in the mist. Your priority, therefore, is to spend Mist Echoes on new armor parts to strengthen you and increase your resistance to the mist.
  2. The treasures in the first few rooms have very little materials - large deposits of Mist Echoes can be found in Nornir chests and in the deeper parts of the labyrinth. However, you run a greater risk - if you die with a lot of material, you will lose everything.
3 - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide
  1. At the end of the labyrinth, you'll come across a Valkyrie - to be able to think about fighting it, you need to have the best gear from this realm. If you die, you will be moved to the beginning and of course, you will lose your Mist Echoes.
  2. It is best to go to this duel with a view to fighting and not to collect anything along the way. For details on Valkyries and helpful videos, see the separate chapter in this guide.
4 - God of War: Niflheim Guide - Side quests and challenges - God of War Guide
  1. Your main goal in Niflheim is to close the rifts, which requires a lot of work. You can speed up the process a little - you can sell some of the gained loot to Sindri and exchange them for Mist Echoes. In addition, you need to learn how to make long and effective labyrinth visits that will allow you to get up to 7,000 Mist Eches at once.
