God of War: In a nutshell God of War Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 19 August 2022

On this page of the guide you will find the most important information what sort of game the God of War (2018) actually is. The most important plot and gameplay mechanics of the game have been explained. This can be useful knowledge when you're planning a purchase and want to engage into this installment of Kratos adventures.

1 - God of War: In a nutshell - Appendix - God of War Guide
  1. God of War released in 2018 is another fully-fledged installment of the famous series of third-person action games in the hack-and-slash convention, which has been one of the most important exclusive titles of successive generations of Sony consoles. The game is not a direct continuation of any part of the original God of War trilogy. It offers significant changes in terms of gameplay and a completely new setting.
  2. The game is set in the atmosphere of Norse mythology, which, most importantly, is perfectly conveyed. We often have the pleasure of taking part in interesting stories, meeting fantastic characters and visiting different worlds.
  3. The new installment of the God of War series is very long and offers entertainment for about 30-50 hours, depending on your desire to explore the game's additional content.
  4. The new God of War is very much focused on the story. Kratos and his son Atreus (the boy appears in the game for the first time in the series) build trust between each other and experience their first adventures together. Although at first the pace of the game may seem slower than in the previous installments - quite quickly the action picks up and we meet more dangerous inhabitants of the Nordic world.
  5. In the game we use the mighty Leviathan axe, although as the story progresses we also gain a second, rather iconic weapon. We don't want to spoil the fun for you - but we can definitely say that the combat system and the combination of both weapons is extremely satisfying.
  6. In the game, you can spend a great deal of time for exploring and discovering various secrets. Some locations and even worlds are optional. Visiting Muspelheim and Niflheim are perfect examples here - both lands offer long hours of gameplay, although visiting them is not necessary to complete the main story mode.
  7. Expanded development of Kratos is a new feature of the series - you can upgrade your main character, buy new attacks or strikes, upgrade your equipment and modify your powerful blows with runes.
  8. When it comes to the difficulty level of the game, the game offers a decent gameplay experience even for casual players. The default difficulty level can be really challenging, and the harder levels are reserved for the best players. Fighting the optional Valkyries on the higher difficulty level is reminiscent of the difficult battles from Dark Souls.
  9. God of War was originally released exclusively on PS4 and became one of the highest rated first party games of that console. With the release of PS5, the new generation of users also got access to this game and there was even a patch prepared for PlayStation 5 to improve the graphics quality and smoothness of animations.
