God of War: Valkyrie Hildr (Niflheim) - how to beat? God of War Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 19 August 2022

On this page of the God of War game guide you will find a description of the battle against the Valkyrie Hildr located in the land of Niflheim. The following guide explains where to find Hildr and how to defeat this powerful optional boss.

Valkyrie Hildr - whereabouts

Valkyrie Hildr resides in the optional land of Niflheim, and how to get there has been described on a separate page of this guide - God of War: Valkyrie Hildr (Niflheim) - how to beat? - Valkyries - God of War Guide

Valkyrie Hildr resides in the optional land of Niflheim, and how to get there has been described on a separate page of this guide. As a reminder, Kratos must complete the Niflheim cipher disk by obtaining its four fragments.

Hildr cannot be encountered immediately after reaching Niflheim. You are required to reach the very end of the labyrinth. An additional complication is the fact that if you die, you will not be able to quickly return to the Valkyrie's lair. It will be necessary to go through the labyrinth again.

Fight preparations and description of the duel with Valkyrie Hildr

Its worth preparing for the duel with Hildr and the recommended steps are described in detail on the introduction page of this chapter - God of War: Valkyrie Hildr (Niflheim) - how to beat? - Valkyries - God of War Guide

It's worth preparing for the duel with Hildr and the recommended steps are described in detail on the introduction page of this chapter. As a reminder, it is highly recommended to get the best possible armor (by completing all the favors for the Brok and Sindri dwarves) and enchant your melee weapon with the best (optimally epic) runes available.

Additionally, before reaching the Valkyrie's lair, it's a good idea to equip the berserker's resurrection stone (it allows you to resurrect Kratos once with maximum fury) and to fully charge up the rage bar in order to be able to use it after the start of the duel with Hildr.

You can start the duel with Hildr by attacking the boss before it opens its wings and engages into the battle. This Valkyrie has an ability to control ice. The boss is able to attack Kratos from a safe distance with ice shards, which can be blocked with a shield. Hildr also has shockwaves (the proper response is to jump away or move out of range of the wave) and is able to perform spinning attacks that allow her to shorten the distance to the hero in 2 seconds.

Hildr is capable of catching the hero, and it's a good idea to avoid her at all costs with proper dodging, as she's capable of inflicting a lot of damage.

A good idea is to wait for Valkyrie charges in order to weaken Hildr. Once you have correctly blocked or dodged the charge, you can launch an attack and take advantage of the fact that for a short while the Valkyrie will not be performing new actions.

Hildr can occasionally use single red attacks and upon noticing this color, the only solution is to perform a dodge, as these attacks cannot be stopped.
