In this chapter of the God of War game guide you will find a list of Valkyries which are strong optional bosses to defeat. We have also included a set of general tips on how to prepare for the battles with the Valkyries.
Duels with Valkyries - key information
- There are 8 valkyrias in the game and 1 Valkyrie Queen (the encounter with her is initially unavailable). Four in Midgard, sealed in concealed chambers. The remaining 4 can be found in the following realms: Helheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim and Alfheim. The order in which you kill them is entirely up to you - they're all comparably challenging, however, the one from Muspelheim seemed particularly difficult, at least to the author.
- Each duel is in theory slightly different, however, the basic principles of the battles are similar. Regardless of the valkyrie you are attacking, you need to show off your reflexes, the ability to dodge enemy strikes (some cannot be blocked in any way) and the ability to launch your own powerful attacks. The valkyrias can deal gargantuan amounts of damage and kill the protagonist with just a few hits. You have to be as focused as you can.
- Best armor. It is best to leave the topic of fighting Valkyries until the very end of the game, or at least until you get the best equipment in the game. This may be, for example, equipment from Niflheim or dwarven armor obtained by completing all of the dwarves' favors. The purpose of this is to make boss battles easier by having high quality equipment.
- Best weapon. Regardless of what type of weapon you choose for the Valkyrie battles, you should make sure it is equipped with the highest quality (epic) runes. It would be good if the used runes would allow you to, for example, deal more damage or reduce the cooldown of special attacks.
- Maximal rage meter. Before each fight, make sure the rage meter is filled to capacity and you can use the Rage of Sparta. This will make the fight easier and will heal you a little bit whilst you're carelessly laying into the valkyries.
- Game difficulty level. If you regularly fail in your attempts to defeat the Valkyries, it can also be an effective tactic to temporarily lower the difficulty of the entire game from the options menu. This will weaken the Valkyries and reduce the effectiveness of their attacks. Changing the difficulty as you progress through the game does not affect your chances of obtaining trophies in any way.
- Light of the World. You should complete this task, since it will yield an item that reduces valkyria damage. Most useful.
- Berserker's resurrection stone. It is a good idea to purchase this Artifact before each duel with a Valkyrie by visiting the Dwarven Shop. Thanks to this stone, Kratos can be revived in case of death. Moreover, after being resurrected, the hero can immediately have a full bar of fury / rage, enabling you to launch the Rage of Sparta and deal some serious damage.
- Valkyria Queen. After collecting the eight helmets, you have to get to the Council of Valkyrias and place all the helmets on the thrones. After doing that, a rift will be opened, and you will be able to face the Queen. She's ridiculously powerful. You will need a maxed-out character and equipment in order to be able to defeat her.
List of Valkyries to defeat
Below is a list of Valkyries available in the game and duels with them are described on the following pages of this chapter. As a reminder, "ordinary" Valkyries can be found and defeated in any order. The only restriction is that the Queen of the Valkyries must be left for the very end.
