Justice Monster Five mini-game Final Fantasy XV Guide
Last update: 07 February 2017
Justice Monster Five is a mini-game available in all Crow's Nest Diner locations, as well as in a restaurant in Altissia. Basically, it's a variation of the popular "pinball" game - in this case the player has to launch different Orbs in order to hit and eliminate enemies. Playing this game gives access to numerous treasures, some of which are extremely valuable. All of the machines allow you to play the "cheaper" (10 Gil) version of the game, and a single one, located in Altissia, gives access to the "more expensive" (10,000 Gil) one. The type (price) influences rewards - the expensive ones gives access to better treasures.

General information
The rules are simple - your task is to launch Orbs and use them to attack enemies. You have to repeat the process until all of the enemies on the "battlefield" are eliminated, trying to protect the Orbs from receiving damage at the same time. Each time you eliminate the last enemy the arena will change and after a few of those changes a boss will appear. Defeating the boss takes you to the next stage and the process is repeated. The game lasts until all of your Orbs are taken out, or you leave the game voluntarily - the game has no time limit. If you're interested in acquiring a specific reward, you have to be careful not to accumulate more reward points than you need.
The gameplay greatly resembles one that can be found in a typical Pinball game. The player launches an Orb (that replaces the "ball" found in a Pinball game) that travels along a fixed route, bouncing off obstacles and walls, damaging enemies along the way. Enemies can be hit from the bottom and sides, as well as from behind - hitting enemies from behind deals more damage. During the "flight" the Orb might bounce off walls and obstacles multiple times, ultimately coming back to the "launcher". Additionally, there's a special circle located on top of the screen - launching your Orb there will give you a guaranteed hit to the back
Remember that your Orbs can also sustain damage. Each enemy has a specific sequence of attacks - every several seconds a wave of light will be emitted around the enemy, dealing damage to all Orbs in the range. You have to time your shot perfectly, to prevent your Orbs from getting damaged. Once the health of the Orb is depleted, you won't be able to use it anymore. Once all orbs are down, it's game over for you. Health of the Orbs can be restored by collecting randomly dropped "healing potions", as well as by drawing a healing effect from the drawing machine.
You can freely swap between Orbs during the game - it's more of a necessity than a possibility, as the orbs won't otherwise be able to regenerate health. This will also allow you to adapt your tactic to the situation on the battlefield, or to use Hero Tech.
The player is given points for each activity in this game, although those can't be used for anything. Rewards are the things that you want to focus during the game. Those can be acquired through drawing - this happens by filling the bar located in the center of the screen. Once full, a drawing mechanism will appear on the screen. After several seconds you will be given a specific reward - provided that you've drawn at least 2 of the same objects. Additionally, you can draw 4 times during a single stage.
Hero Tech
Hero Techs are, more or less, special abilities of Orbs. After filling up the blue bar (located near the bottom right corner of the Orb portrait) an Orb will be able to deal significantly increased damage to all enemies in a large radius. However, the usefulness of this ability doesn't end on that. Using this ability you can summon more than one Orb to the battlefield, allowing you to fight with 2, 3 or even 4 Orbs for several seconds. What is more, additional Orbs you summon to the battlefield are immune to any forms of damage.
You have to fill the blue Tech Bar in order to be able to use Hero Tech. Afterwards, you just have to press the specific button ("Controls" chapter of this guide). This will activate a short animation, causing the Orb to become invulnerable for a few seconds and explode in a burst of energy soon after. To summon another Orb to the battlefield you have to select the Orb you're interested in with L1/LB or R1/RB (PS4/Xone) - don't use Swap Orb, just select an Orb. Afterwards, press the button to activate Hero Tech. A new Orb will appear on the screen for several seconds - once the time has expired, the second Orb will disappear, leaving on the original on the battlefield.
Available Orbs and types of attacks.
There are two ways to attack enemies in this game - by launching an Orb immediately, or by holding it (the launch button) for several seconds and launching the Orb, giving it additional abilities. Different attack types are available for different Orbs. The type of an Orb can be checked on the bottom of the screen - each Orb will have an icon next to the lower left corner of the screen. Those are as follows:
- Burst - marked with the letter B. It causes the Orb to explode on contact, dealing area-of-effect damage to all nearby enemies.
- Climb - marked with the letter C. The Orb moves along the walls, allowing you to easily attack an enemy from behind. Those types of Orbs are incapable of attacking far away enemies.
- Pierce - marked with the letter P. Orbs of this type pierce through enemies, dealing additional damage to the target and allow it to hit multiple foes.
You should make use of all of the available combinations and find their usage. Remember that Orbs are selected randomly when you start the game.
Relationships between elements
Each Orb has, aside from the attack types described above, a connection with one of the available elements. This causes the Orb to be effective against some Orbs and ineffective against others. This works for the enemies as well - when an enemy has an "element advantage" its attacks will deal significantly increased damage to your character.
The type of an element can be checked by looking at the portrait of an Orb, located near the corner of the screen. Similarly to attack types, elements are also picked randomly, at the beginning of each encounter. The available elements are:
- Fire - deals increased damage to Earth and decreased to Water, receives increased damage from Water and decreased from Earth.
- Earth - deals increased damage to Lightning and decreased to Fire, receives increased damage from Fire and decreased from Lightning.
- Earth - deals increased damage to Water and decreased to Earth, receives increased damage from Earth and decreased from Water.
- Earth - deals increased damage to Fire and decreased to Lightning, receives increased damage from Lightning and decreased from Fire.
- Dark - deals and receives increased damage from Light..
- Light - deals and receives increased damage from Dark.
Available rewards
There are 5 different rewards to choose from and their quality depends on whether you've collected 2 or 3 identical symbols. The rewards are as follows:
- HP UP! - restores 50% or 100% of health to all Orbs.
- Bonus Damage - decreases the maximum health level of all enemies by 20% or 50%. There's a mistake in the game description - this ability doesn't damage CURRENT health, but rather MAXIMUM health.
- Tech-Ready! - replenishes the tech bars of all characters by 50% or 100%.
- Treasure Chest - gives 2 or 5 reward points that can be exchanged for various rewards.
- Bonus points - you can receive 30,000 or 100,000 bonus points.
You should focus on collecting reward boxes all the time, but you won't be able to influence the drawing process in any way. You have to rely on your own luck and continue the journey until you acquire the necessary reward boxes.
How to play?
Note - you're not playing to acquire the highest amount of points and to eliminate as many opponents as possible. You're playing to collect the best possible rewards with the least amount of time spent. This is why you should stick to a number of rules.
First things first - don't rush. You should aim your shots carefully, so that the enemy won't be able to counterattack. Secondly - select the type and element of the Orb accordingly. Sending an Orb which elements are weaker than the one enemy is using and doing so at a bad time might end up extremely bad - in some cases a single strike from the enemy can be more than enough to take out an Orb. Finally, remember to use Hero Tech to summon more Orbs on the battlefield. Hero Tech replenishes quite fast - you should have it ready in no time.
Your main objective, however, is to draw items from the drawing machine. You have to force the machine to start drawing 4 times a day. In order to do so, focus on hitting various obstacles located on the battlefield. Each time an Orb hits an obstacle, the drawing bar will slowly fill. Once it's full, the drawing will start. Try to force the machine to start the drawing process 4 times during a single stage - this will decrease the amount of rounds you have to complete, as well as the amount of time you have to invest in order to collect all of the interesting items.
Available rewards
As it was mentioned in the beginning of this chapter, reward points can be spent on one of the many treasures. Note - the game won't signal you in any way. If you want to acquire, for instance, an Emerald Bracelet, you have to stop the game when you've accumulated 90-98 points. Below you can find a table representing all of the items that can be acquired in exchange for reward points - both for the cheaper (10 Gil) and the expensive (10,000 Gil).
