Getting to level 99 is not a priority, although it gives satisfaction.

The process of accumulating experience points in Final Fantasy XV works slightly different when compared to other installments of the series (or RPG games in general). Even though you receive them in the same way - by defeating enemies and completing quests - you also have to spend a night (at a hotel or by camping in the wild) for the experience points to have any effect on the characters. From this chapter you will learn about two methods of accumulating experience points and the ways to multiply them.

Basics

Before you can use any of the presented methods, you should first prepare your team. Do to so:

  • Equip a Moogle Charm (or multiple of them) on your character - each one of those items will increase the amount of experience points gained by a character by 20%.
  • Eat an experience boosting meal. The higher the percentage bonus, the better, although those comes with a high Gil price. You should at least grab a Stacked Ham Sandwich at Wiz Chocobo Post.
  • During the process of accumulating experience points you cannot sleep with your party, both in hotels and in the wild. You have to gather as many points before resting as possible.
  • You can use both of the presented methods at the same time - it will yield the best results.
  • You shouldn't be fixated on getting level 99 as quickly as possible - even without those specials methods you should be able to get there naturally after 50-60 hours of gameplay.

Method one - using Expericast spells

The game allows you to create your own spells (which you can read about in "Magic" chapter) and one of the groups of spells is the Expericast. Spells from that group allow you to deal damage and receive additional experience points. It's quite simple - you just have to cast the spell (you don't even have to hit the foe!) from that group and you will be given additional experience points once the encounter is over. The amount of experience points you receive this way depends on the "effect level" of the spell - you just multiple it by 100. For instance, a spell with "effect level" 20 will give you 2,000 points, 50 will give 5,000 and so on.

Those spells can be used to quickly accumulate vast amount of experience points, sometimes even hundreds of thousands of them. You "only" need a large amount of catalysts to craft them. Those items can be collect in the world - they are scattered around areas and each time you pick an item from the ground there's a chance that it will be a Debased Banknote / Coin / Silverpiece or a Rare coin.

Additionally, you can use an exploit in the game to accumulate those items. Find a place with an item lying on the ground, save the game and pick up the item. If it's not one of the catalysts you're looking for, reload the game and try again - the item you collect will be different each time you load the game and pick it up. Once you've found the item you're looking for, find another place with an item lying on the ground and repeat the whole process. However, this process is extremely mundane and it's simply inefficient - you should just passively accumulate those items as you play the game and use them all at once.

Once you've accumulated enough of those items, try to craft spells with "effect level" near 90-99. There's no point in crafting 5 spells with 20 effect level - it's better to craft a single one with 99 effect level, as catalyst also influence the amount of usages the crafted spell will have. You will probably achieve this effect only with Rare Coins (you must use 8 of them to achieve 96 effect level), as you will need too many of the remaining items - 12 pieces of Debased Silverpiece, 16 of Debased Banknotes and 24 of Debased Coins. Focus on getting as many powerful Expericast spells as possible and use the remaining catalysts to cast whatever you can. When it comes to elements (Fire/Ice/Lightning), there's no difference - you can use a single point to craft a spell, as it's not damage you're looking for.

You now have to initiate an encounter with the enemy and use the crafted spells. You can cast them multiple times during a single encounter (the effects accumulate) and they don't have to hit the enemy. At the end of the encounter you will receive the bonus experience points, as well as those given to you for defeating the enemies. Repeat the process a number of times and use all of the crafted Expericast spells - this should give you thousands, even hundreds of thousands of additional experience points.

Method two - experience points for Hunts

The Hunt in Verinas Mart mentioned in the paragraph.

Another quick and extremely profitable method to accumulate experience points (and not only them) is to repeat Hunts you've already completed. Hunts will reward you with better items for the first completion, although during them you will be facing significantly stronger (and yielding more experience points) enemies than those you normally stumble upon on the world map. This method will require you to repeat one of the Hunts to quickly accumulate a huge amount of experience points.

Wyverns are a good source of experience points. - How to quickly train your team in Final Fantasy XV? - FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - Final Fantasy XV Game Guide
Wyverns are a good source of experience points.

You can choose any Hunts from the game, although one of the most profitable ones is Verinas Mart Under Threat, a hunt available in Verinas Mart - Ravatogh, located in the south-western part of the map. The hunt is about fighting Wyverns, 38th level monsters. Those foes are quite easy to deal with and each one of them will give you 6,000-8,000 experience points - the value can be lower/higher depending on the meal (and whether you eat it) consumed before the fight. Starting the quest, reaching Wyverns and delivering the quest back will take 5-6 minutes, allowing you to complete it 10-12 times during a single hour. This in turn will reward you with up to 100,000 experience points.

A nice addition to the method - Wyvern Wings can be sold for a nice sum of Gil. - How to quickly train your team in Final Fantasy XV? - FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - Final Fantasy XV Game Guide

Additionally, killing Wyverns will allow you to quickly accumulate large quantities of Wyvern Wings. Each one of those items can be sold for 1,600 Gil. You should have about 90 of those after about 2 hours of farming, allowing you to sell them for over 150,000 Gil. This makes this method a good way to accumulate huge amount of experience points and quite a nice sum of Gil at the same time.

Using the accumulated experience points

Such amount of experience points should be enough for the party to reach 96-99 level. - How to quickly train your team in Final Fantasy XV? - FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - Final Fantasy XV Game Guide

Once you've accumulated enough experience points (the more, the better) you should look for an adequate place to sleep to use them. Camping in the wild is the worst option, as it won't give you any additional experience points, although every other place you can sleep at will. The available places are as follows:

  • Caravans - those give 1.2x more experience points and cost 30 Gil. They are available in most towns.
  • Motels - they cost 300 Gil and give 1,5x more experience points. Place where you can find those are: Longwyth, Taelpar, Old Lestallum and Lestallum Hotel.
  • Hotels - there are only two of those available in the game. Quayside Cradle in Galdin Quay costs 10,000 Gil, but doubles (2.0x) the amount of experience points, whereas the most expensive one (30,000 Gil) can be found in Altissia and it's called The Leville Royal Suite. However, it's worth the investment, as it triples (3.0x) the experience points you were able to accumulate.

As you can imagine, selecting a proper place to sleep in as important as the process of accumulating experience points. You should amass at least 400,000 - 500,000 experience points and travel to Altissia's hotel - thanks to that your team will receive 1,500,000 experience points, allowing it to advance to a very high level.
