Catalysts in Final Fantasy XV

Last update: 22 December 2016

In this chapter you will learn about catalysts - how are they described in the game, what are their characteristics, how do they function and what to do in order to gain a desired effect with them. You will also find tables here, with information about every single catalyst available in the game. The characteristics of catalysts (as described in the table) are as follows:

  • Effect - the type of effect that the catalyst adds to the spell (like Expericast or Freecast).
  • Power - how much Potency will each catalyst add to the spell.
  • Effect power - Effect Level value, the power of the effect given by the catalyst. Effect Level can have a value ranging from 1 to 99 and affects the power of the effect and/or the chance to apply it to an enemy.
  • Units required for duplication - the amount of catalysts required to increase the number of casts of the spell by 1.

You have to understand the last value, units required for duplication. If you want to know how many catalysts you have to use to increase the number of casts of a spell by a certain number, you have to multiply "units required for duplication" value by the amount of extra usages you want to get. Afterwards, you will get the number of catalysts required. Note- the value must always be rounded up - 3.75 is 4, 2.25 is 3 and even 6.01 is 7. You always round up.

To make it easier for you to understand, we will use a number of examples. For a catalysts with "units required for duplication" equal to 1.35 (Ammonite Fossil) you will need:

  • To get a single extra usage of a spell you have to multiple 1.35 by 1, giving you 1.35. You now have to round it up (2.00) - you will need 2 pieces of that catalysts.
  • To get two extra usages of a spell you have to multiple 1.35 by 2, giving you 2.70. You now have to round it up (3.00) - you will need 3 pieces of that catalyst.
  • To get five extra usages of a spell you have to multiple 1.35 by 5, giving you 6.75. You now have to round it up (7.00) - you will need 7 pieces of that catalyst to acquire 5 extra usages of a spell.

Note - if any value in the table equals to "-" it means that the catalyst doesn't have any effect on a given characteristic - it won't increase the power of the spell / effect, it won't give you additional usages of a spell and so on.

Catalysts - Dual, Tri, Quad and Quintcast effects

Here you will find a list of all of the catalysts with the Dualcast, Tricast, Quadcast or Quintcast effect, allowing you to cast the spell two, three, four or five times in a row. The first spell is guaranteed, every other has a chance depending on the quality and number of catalysts. The minimum chance is always 50%.

Success chance: 50 + (catalyst's effect level x amount of catalysts used).

Note - the bonus is not a percent value, it's a fixed one, it doesn't matter what enemy you use it on. Bonuses from this spell stack up - during a single encounter you can use it multiple times, receiving thousands of experience points at the end of it.

The Bonus EXP is calculated using this method: Effect Level x 100 - for 50 it's 5,000 experience points, 70 is 7,000 and so on.

Catalysts - Killcast, Powercast, Maxicast, Blastcast and Failcast effects

Here you will find a list of all of the catalysts with the following effects:

  • Killcast - a chance to instantly kill the enemy.
  • Powercast - increased power (Potency) of the spell while retaining the lowest tier.
  • Maxicast - a spell that can deal more than 9,999 points of damage.
  • Blastcast - casts the spell with increased damage, but it leaves the caster with 1 health point.
  • Failcast - a chance that the spell will fail.
