The Compound Crossbow | Additional novelties of The Following Dying Light: The Following Guide
Last update: 03 June 2016
Your crossbow is the most important variation of weapons available in The Following. It is a perfect weapon to take down bandits and selected monsters quickly and silently, although after equipping it with special bolts, it can become a more offensive device. The crossbow won't be available right away and you will need to spend at least tens of minutes in the game to get it. More specifically, you have to increase your Trust level (you will find more information about Trust on the next page of this chapter) to a point when you become a Newcomer. The crossbow is a reward for achieving this task.
The crossbow will not appear in your inventory even after you reach the rank of a Newcomer. You have to revisit Jasir's Farm and meet with one of the acolytes, the Faceless. He will provide you with the weapon and some basic bolts
Important - Don't worry if you lose your crossbow, as from now on you can craft it due to an unlocked blueprint. You should also continue to gain more Trust, as further ranks will give you access to more advanced crossbows and various bolts (such as the explosive ones).
As we said, the crossbow is a perfect weapon to take down your enemies silently. It's great when e.g. you want to clear encampments from bandits and you don't want to be detected. Regardless of whether you were detected or not, always aim for the head, because if you hit a different body part, the target will only take minor damage. Apart from that, remember to search the fallen bodies as the game will often allow you to retrieve bolts (unless they were a special type of bolts e.g. explosive bolts which get destroyed during the explosion).
Important - Scoring a perfect headshots can result in an immediate death of even some of the more elite zombies, including the enormous mutants. This is a great way to save up on ammunition and to avoid additional risks from fighting using usual methods.
