Boss fights | Side quests - Other locations Dying Light: The Following Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
In the Dying Light: The Following expansion you will face a number of new, elite enemies, most of which are so-called Freaks of Nature. Those foes are SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than "regular" infected, such as the Mutant, or the Toad. They are using the same attacks as their regular counterparts, but are much more durable. As soon as you get close to such a monster (which will be now marked on your map with a special icon), the game will display its health bar at the top of the screen, coupled with the unique name of the monster.
Note - aside from the Freaks of Nature, Crane has to defeat the Mother (an encounter associated with one of the endings of the game) as well. This encounter has its own rules and was described thoroughly on the last page of this chapter.
The following bullets will certainly be helpful during the encounters with the Freaks of Nature, and will allow you to prepare to them accordingly (those tips aren't meant for the encounter with the Mother). You should read through them before deciding to fight those monsters.
- Try to develop all of the main abilities of Crane to the maximum. This will allow the protagonist to fight more efficiently, he won't tire so much during the encounter, and you will have a broader range of options to choose from.
- Unlock at least a couple of levels of the Legend tree, associated with The Following expansion. Depending on your chosen approach, you can develop Two-Handed Weapons (increasing the damage dealt by two-handed weapons), Firearms (damage dealt using various firearms), Bow (damage dealt with the bow), or Throwing (damage dealt using throwing weapons).
- Adapt Crane's equipment accordingly to the encounter (each of the elite enemies can be weakened in a variety of ways). You should acquire high-quality (upgraded, if possible) melee and / or ranged weaponry, or prepare as many throwing weapons as you are possible.
- Make sure that the hero is at full health and has access to a great deal of first aid kits. Additionally, you can prepare Boosters, increasing the effectiveness of the character for a limited time.
- An encounter with a given Freak of Nature can last from a few dozens of seconds to even a couple of minutes, depending on the difficulty level, your strategy, as well as the quality of your equipment. You should only decide to fight with a Freak of Nature during the early hours of the day - it will allow you to kill the enemy during the day, reducing the risk of nightfall and a sudden attack from a Volatile.
