Driving - The Basics, Using The Car | The Buggy Dying Light: The Following Guide
Last update: 03 June 2016
Your off-road buggy can be used to perform any action that is associated with eliminating zombies that you will come across and with a little luck, a single attack may take down several monsters. The key rule is not to move towards your targets too slow. It is likely that the collision might slow you down or stop the vehicle for good, and thus give zombies a chance to launch their own attacks.
The situation is not similar in case of other enemies. You can use your dune buggy to kill hostile bandits but you must take into consideration the fact that they can rapidly get out of your way or open fire. In fact, an attempt to neutralize your opponent can result in failure or even give them enough time to launch a counter-attack.
Elite varieties of the infected can cause an even greater problem, and thus you shouldn't use your vehicle to fight such creatures (Bolters are an exception - you can learn more about them in the part devoted to Changes in the bestiary). Your car can be damaged (by an exploding Bomber, a Gas Tank, or the venomous acid spit of Toads) or the attack will not be successful due to the fact that a monster is too powerful (Demolishers and Goons). What is more, Virals and Volatiles may consider chasing your vehicle which often results in their success. If a monster gets a chance to jump on your dune buggy, it will launch its powerful attacks. The game will give you a chance to defend yourself by pressing the button responsible for punching, although such attacks are rather weak. The only effective method to deal with your opponents is to use nitro which will throw the monster off your vehicle.
Remember - Before Virals or Volatiles actually catch you, you can always use your mine dispenser. You can read more about this device on one of the next pages of this chapter.
You won't use your dune buggy for combat only, as it is perfect to move between locations quickly. Traveling by roads is not the only option, as this off-road beast will handle rough terrain well. However, you should keep in mind that most obstacles are indestructible, and thus hitting them will cause your vehicle to stop and take severe damage. This problem concerns trees (small bushes won't usually cause trouble), walls and other abandoned cars that you will come across. Furthermore, try to avoid steep ramps, as the dune buggy may roll over and it will take some time to get back on track.
You can also use the car to complete challenges - both minor and more extended ones which require Crane to complete certain tracks in limited time. This attraction has been described in details on a page called New Challenges.
The vehicle is an integral part of some of the quests but in most of them you will have to leave your car for some time. You don't have to worry that you will have to travel great distances to reach the abandoned car. In each of the unlocked Safe Zones (green house icons) you will find a radio similar to the one in the above photo. You can use it to summon your vehicle (no extra charges) - it will be available somewhere near this specific Safe Zone (the car icon on the map).
It is possible that during your adventures your buggy vehicle will roll over or it will get stuck between trees or large rocks. You don't have to panic and return to the nearest Safe Zone. All you have to do is to approach the front part of your vehicle and hold down the button responsible for position reset. The car will be automatically moved to a neutral place and you will be able to continue your journey.
Your car has some limits. Apart from mechanical damage that will be discussed on the next page, you need to make sure that you have enough fuel to travel around the game world (the fuel level gauge is in the lower right corner of the screen). Luckily, this is not a major problem, as you can easily gather fuel and it requires no extra space in your inventory. You can find fuel in abandoned cars - each time you find such a vehicle (a truck or a bus will do as well) look for the filling unit and use the interaction button. Depending whether you are lucky or not, you will obtain fuel or find nothing. Besides, you should stop at every gas station that you come across - you will always find some fuel in gas pumps.
You can only replenish fuel if you are not inside of your car. You have to approach its back part and press the interaction button. If you run out of gas, you can press the button several times (as long as you have enough fuel with you).
