After you wake up, the thirst thing you'll have to do is to look around your cabin and try to open the door. As it won't budge, you'll have to turn around and head for the crack in the wall. Continue until you reach a cut-scene, after which you'll have to make a very important decision, i.e. whether you'll accept the Outsider's mark. Without the mark, you'll be unable to use any supernatural powers, including Blink. The decision is up to you, so if raising the bar by playing without powers is what you want, do it. Remember though, that many secrets can be accessed only by using Blink (or Emily's Far Reach).

If you'll accept the mark, you'll be given your first power - Blink (or Far Reach when playing as Emily). Use the power to reach the meeting place. After a short conversation with the ghost of your mother/lover, you'll receive The Heart - the artifact known from the first game, which will help you find hidden bone charms, Outsider shrines and runes. You'll encounter the first shrine at your destination, where you'll also receive your first runes.

After you wake up once again, you'll find two bone charms on the table in your cabin. They are chosen at random with each playthrough. There's also a case with runes inside and a journal, which you can pick up. After you're done searching the cabin, open the door (don't forget to collect the crossbow that's hanging on them), and go meet up with Meagan Foster. Before you do that, though, you might want to check out the locked store room, right of your cabin. The door is blocked, but if you peek through the window, you'll see an opened hatch in the store room's ceiling. Head for the stair, and take the door on the right on the first floor. Once outside, look for the open hatch and jump down. There's a bunch of useful things in the store room, including crossbow bolts, mana potion and three pieces of copper wire (worth 10 coins each).

Having talked to Meagan head to Sokolov's cabin, where you'll find some useful things, as well as the Audiograph: Anton Sokolov's Abduction. Before you board the boat heading to the docks, equip the heart to find a rune and dive to retrieve it, because this is the last time you are aboard this ship. If you've got everything you wanted, return to Meagan and let her take your to the city.
