Combat and stealth

Two ways: sneaking or fighting. It is up to you.

In Dishonored 2, combat is mostly optional. You can ignore all guards to reach your target. Your stealth abilities come in handy. You can use all kinds of roofs, tables, niches or even shady rooms to get past the enemies unseen. Using special skills and weapons is essential if you choose to act this way. The most basic skill is Blink in the case of Corvo, and Far Reach for Emily. These skills are very similar to each other, they allow you to move to places normally unreachable (e.g. balconies, roofs). Crouching limits your field of view, the enemies will not notice you as easily as they would if you were walking or running. Remember about quiet ranged weapons, such as crossbows, and items on tables that you can use to distract the enemies.

You can use a wide range of weapons (guns, grenades) and supernatural abilities. It is up to you whether you want to kill an enemy by summoning bloodthirsty rats or stabbing him in the back. Blocking enemy attacks with a sword is an extremely important aspect of combat. Blocking attacks at right moments give you a chance for a deadly counterattack. After some time passes, you will receive the ability to block arrows and bullets, which can be an effective strategy against heavily armed enemies.

Chaos level

Mission summary.

Chaos levels are simply the ways of completing missions. If you kill every person you meet, your overall chaos level will rise instantly. It also rises when you scare a civilian or when an enemy sees you. High chaos level is required for the bad ending. NPCs will react to you differently if you play like that. You can see your chaos stats in a summary of each mission. Unlike with low chaos, choosing this style of playing allows you to use every possible weapon and supernatural ability, because even a single murder will stop you from getting a "Merciful" status.

You will receive a low chaos level and "Ghost" status if you sneak through a level unnoticed or choke the enemies without being detected. The latter option is recommended, since the enemies can easily see your character, especially on higher levels of difficulty. Keep in mind that not only enemies can "detect" you. Civilians can be against you if they see you break the law. In such a case, they will alert the guards.

Below you can see stats with corresponding categories. Each of them can be found in a mission summary.

  • Lethality - This stat corresponds to casualties during a mission and is divided into two categories: "civilians killed" and "hostiles killed". "Merciful" status can be obtained by not killing anyone during a mission.
  • Stealth - This stat is responsible for being hidden. It is divided into three categories. "Alarms rung", "bodies detected", and "detections". Alarms are placed all around locations, they are rung when enemies see you and decide they need support. Discovered bodies - when hostiles see a stunned or dead enemy. They do not need to ring the alarm or see you, so try to get rid of every body by hiding them in places that are hard to reach. Detections - how many times you have been detected (red dot above an enemy or a civilian). To get the "Ghost" status, you must not be detected during a mission.

Note: If you are not sure whether an enemy has seen you, you can enter the menu and select stats. All of them are refreshed in real time.
