Void Engine is the engine that Dishonored 2 works on.

Arkane has been through a long way, while creating Dishonored games. The first part used Unreal Engine, which would not meet the requirements for the contemporary games, when it comes to graphics. The studio decided to modify the existing id Tech 5 engine and use it to create Void Engine tools. Void Engine uses all of the contemporary techniques of image displaying (physically based rendering). This yields a highly realistic effect of stage lighting and shadows which, in combination with stylistics, gives excellent effects. Dishonored 2 is a graphically- beautiful game and, undoubtedly, it deserves the title of one of the best-looking games of 2016. The amount of details displayed in a single scene is immense, even at low graphical settings, and each one of the elements has been carefully prepared. The initial version of Dishonored 2 had its share of issues with framerate drops, which resulted from poor optimization. Before patch 1.3 was released, graphical cards such as GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX480 could not handle the game in 60 fps, but fortunately enough, developers have been working on perfecting that and, as of today (patch 1.3) the game is fully playable on lower-end cards. This guide has been prepared based on the PC version with Intel Core i5 4460, Radeon R9 270x 2GB and 8GB DDR3 RAM. In its 1.0 version, the game was completely unplayable in resolution 1920x1080, even at the lowest graphic details. The game had to be launched in 900p resolution, due to the low amount of VRAM. Fortunately, this has been fixed by the 1.3 patch and it is now possible to play the game on medium-high details in fullHD (30-50fps).

To sum up: In spite of the abovementioned issues, the 1.3 version of Dishonored 2 is technically superior from the technical viewpoint, as of the launch day. The absence of engine issues, crashes and other problems had it receive notes higher than some of the contemporary AAA games that have been having considerable technical issues. However, it has to be mentioned that without the 1.3 patch, the game looked very poorly.
