Exploration is an integral part of the gameplay.

Exploration is an integral part of the Dishonored 2 gameplay. As you play, you will visit locations and collect items, coins, and runes. The most difficult part of exploration is getting a Ghost status. To do it, you need to focus on disabling security systems first, then eliminating (stunning) enemies, instead of searching through everything. Life gets easier without guards around. The second most important aspect of the gameplay are the supernatural abilities. Regardless of your choice between Corvo and Emily, you will receive Blink or Far Reach. It is a skill required to explore all of the location, so if you chose to play without powers (see the first chapter of the second mission), you can be sure that you won't collect all of the items.

Exploration in this game is not just visiting apartments, but also solving puzzles such as opening a closed door or getting an item you cannot reach. In most cases, these tasks are not easy and require persistence and looking through every corner. All of the secrets have been described thoroughly in the guide.

Below you can see the list of collectibles you should look for:

  • Bonecharms - Charms give minor bonuses to your character. Use the heart you received at the beginning of the second mission to find them.
  • Runes - Runes are required to buy supernatural abilities. Be careful while buying them and decide which ones you need the most, since their total cost is higher than the number of runes. Use the heart to find them.
  • Outsider shrines - Cutscenes that usually contain two runes. Use the heart to find them.
  • Coins - The only currency in the game, so the items you find are automatically converted into coins. Their total number is different each time and getting all of them is nearly impossible, but try to search through every part of a location to get as many of them as possible.
  • Paintings - These collectibles have to be found manually. Each painting is hidden and the cost of each is 200 coins. Paintings are included in mission stats.
  • Blueprints - They need to be found manually. Each blueprint is hidden and you can use them in the black market to upgrade your weapons. Blueprints are included in mission stats.
  • Audiographs - Audiographs, unlike newspapers and journals, are sometimes required to complete special actions (see mission 1). They do not count into mission stats.
  • Journals and newspapers - Completely optional collectibles that add some details to the story but do not matter in mission stats.
