Jindoshs lock - Jindosh Lock - How to solve the riddle? | Mission 6 - Mission 6 - Dust District - Dishonored 2 Game Guide
Jindosh's lock

The previous chapters walked you through the ways of getting through the main gate of Aramis Stilton's mansion. One of these methods is guessing the combination for the lock, without Howlers or Overseers help, and without picking up the note found in Durante's office. In order to do that, you need to read the tip found by the gate, and use it as basis to deduce the location of every guest of the party, and every item ascribed to them. The combination is different with each playthrough, so we are unable to just include the correct solution that will work for every player. However there are a few constant values that will fit every situation. You should draw a 5x5 table, and write each element of the riddle.

Warning! The solution below has been prepared for this version of the riddle. In your case, all the elements, meaning names, items, colors, locations, or drinks may be changed. However, the whole sentences do not change, so all you have to do is to change the elements written below to the ones which are a part of your riddle.

One of the incarnations of the Jindosh riddle

Let's begin with dividing the riddle into base elements:

  • Female Names - Natsiou, Contee, Finch, Marcolla, Winslow
  • Items - diamond, war medal, ring, bird pendant, snuff tin
  • Colors of Clothes - red, green, blue, violet, white
  • Locations - Dunwall, Fraeport, Baleton, Karnaca, Dabokva
  • Drinks - beer, wine, rum, absinth, whiskey

So we are left with five elements in five categories ascribed to them. To counter the problem, we can draw a table which will allow us to itemize the situation, and write the data from the riddle. Beginning the table is rather easy, as the second paragraph starts with "The women sat in a row" and "Marcolla was at the far left". So we put Marcolla in the table, in the first column from the left.

Name

Marcolla

Color

Item

Location

Drink

The next sentence "next to the guest wearing a green jacket" tells us that lady wearing the green jacket sits next to Marcolla. Let's put green in the second column.

Name

Marcolla

Color

Green

Item

Location

Drink

The following sentence: "falling onto the guest in the center seat, spilling the poor woman's absinth" tells us that the person sitting in the middle drinks absinth. Let's put Absinth in the middle column.

Name

Marcolla

Color

Green

Item

Location

Drink

Absinth

For a change, the sentence: the lady in blue sat left of someone in white. I remember that blue outfit because the woman spilled her beer all over it tells us two things. One of them is the fact that the lady in blue sat next to the woman in white. The previous sentences make it clear that the lady in blue should be placed in third or fourth row, as the final row has to be left out for the woman on her right side. However, she cannot be placed in the third row, as we already know her drink - beer, and we know that the woman in the middle drank absinth. To sum up, the woman in blue is in the fourth row, along with her drink, beer, while the woman dressed in white is placed in the fifth row.

Name

Marcolla

Green

Blue

White

Item

Drink

Absinth

Beer

The sentence: "...and Madam Natsiou wore a jaunty red hat" says that Natsiou is ascribed to color red. In this stage, as three colors have been used, there are two possibilities. Red is found either in the first row, or the third one. However, the first column is taken over by a lady named Marcolla, so Natsiou lands in the third row. This discovery leads to the fact that we have used all the colors, aside from violet. This means that a violet suit had been worn by Marcolla - the lady on the left.

Name

Marcolla

Natsiou

Color

Violet

Green

Red

Blue

White

Item

Location

Drink

Absinth

Beer

The sentence: "The traveler from Baleton was dressed entirely in violet" tells us that Marcolla was from Baleton, as the previous sentence allowed us to deduce that she is the one wearing the violet suit. Let's write Baleton in the first column.

Name

Marcolla

Natsiou

Color

Violet

Green

Red

Blue

White

Item

Location

Baleton

Drink

Absinth

Beer

The fragment saying that "When one of the dinner guests bragged about her Snuff Tin, the woman next to her said they were finer in Baleton, where she lived" gives us the knowledge that a person sitting next to the woman from Baleton has a Snuff Tin. As we already know who arrived from Baleton (in this case, Marcolla), we know that the person next to her has the Snuff Tin, which means that the item lands in the second row, as this is the only location which is next to the lady from Baleton.

"Someone else carried a valuable bird pendant and when she saw it, the visitor from Karnaca next to her almost spilled her neighbor's wine" - this sentence is a bit more complicated, but brings us one important lead - we should start eliminating the items which can be ascribed to a certain person. Let's assume that the first person with an assigned item will be the woman on the left, in this case, Marcolla.

  • Marcolla cannot have the Snuff Tin, as it belongs to the woman in the second row.
  • Marcolla cannot have the War Medal, as it belongs to Contee (as per the sentence "So Countess Contee showed off a prized War Medal)
  • Marcolla cannot have the Diamond, as it belongs to the woman from Fraeport ("at which the lady from Fraeport scoffed, saying it was no match for her Diamond")

These facts leave us with the one of two possibilities: Marcolla has either the Ring, or the Bird Pendant. The riddle doesn't include any details about the ring, while the following lines lack any reliable data, so the bird pendant, along with the wine, lands in the first column, while Karnaca lands in the second one.

Green

Red

Blue

White

Item

Bird Pendant

Snuff Tin

Location

Baleton

Karnaca

Drink

Wine

Absinth

Beer

The sentence: "The lady from Dabokva, full of whiskey" tells us that the lady from Dabokva drinks whiskey. The only location viable for writing both these elements in a one column, is the fifth row, as it's the only one without two elements described above.

Snuff Tin

The part saying that "Lady Winslow raised her rum in toast" tells us that the person from the second column (Winslow) drinks wine, as it's the last one without a drink.

The sentence: "Then baroness Finch captivated them all with a story about her wild youth in Dunwall" tells us that the person in the fourth column is from Dunwall, and is named Finch. This is deducted based on the fact that the third and fourth column is without a location, but the third one already has a name. As a result Finch has to be placed in the fourth column.

"So Countess Contee showed off a prized War Medal" - this sentence tells us that a person named Contee is located in the fifth column, as it's the last column without a name. Additionally, we learn of her item, War Medal.

The sentence: "at which the lady from Fraeport scoffed, saying it was no match for her Diamond" says that the person in the third row is from Fraeport, as is the last column without a location. We also learn that she has a diamond.

We are left with one last cell to fill, let's input the last item which is left - the ring.

You now know the solution for the riddle, which can be modified to fit your version of the puzzle. Remember that the elements which have been listed here (name, item, color, location, drink) change with each playthrough. However, the sentences are always the same, so just replace these values with the ones found in your version of the riddle. Remember that the table was only supposed to help you get through the lock on your own. The order which you've created by writing everything in an organized manner isn't that useful when solving the riddle, as the mechanism asks you only to ascribe the items to the women.
