Days Gone: Stealth Guide Days Gone guide, walkthrough

Last update: 02 April 2021

To survive the harsh world of Days Gone, you will often have to rely on stealth. The game has a stealth mechanic which allows the player to perform stealth eliminations. Read this chapter to learn more about it.

In Days Gone, you can perform stealth kills and sneak into certain places without fighting. Press the crouch button (Circle) to start sneaking. There are two factors that can lead to being detected - visibility and noise. They depend on the time of day and weather. Another way to perform executions is to run towards an enemy and attack them before they turn around - this can be done on both humans and Freakers. While sneaking, pay attention to these two indicators: (1) visibility indicator - you are less visible in shadows and during the night. The icon will turn gray. If you hide in shrubs, this icon will be crossed out indicating that you are completely invisible. (2) this icon shows the level of noise you make while walking, shooting and performing other actions (including driving your bike).

Tips:

  1. Hide in shrubs to become invisible,
  2. Attack enemies from behind by pressing Triangle,
  3. Use the binoculars to mark enemies - you will learn their positions and make them easier to eliminate,
  4. You can still make noise even when you are crouching - stop tilting the analog stick all the way; tilt it only a little bit to move in silence.
  5. Stealth kills give you almost twice the XP.
Buy a new exhaust for your bike to reduce the noise. - Days Gone: Stealth Guide - Game basics - Days Gone Guide

Remember, your bike also creates noise. Reduce it to be able to drive closer to enemies or to avoid situations where you attract attention of randomly encountered opponents - you can do that by upgrading the exhaust.

Silencers & Suppressors

Silencers can be found, e.g. in cars after you lift up the hood. Sometimes, you will find scrap, other times it will be a silencer. - Days Gone: Stealth Guide - Game basics - Days Gone Guide
Silencers can be found, e.g. in cars after you lift up the hood. Sometimes, you will find scrap, other times it will be a silencer.

Weapon silencer is necessary in stealth kills. usually, silencers can be found under car hoods; you can also purchase them in encampments (a silencer's size depends on the size of the car - the larger the car, the bigger the silencer - that can be attached to a primary or special weapon - you will get). Remember to open the quick menu to attach a silencer to your weapon. Each silencer has a certain level of durability - don't use them all the time. Each type of weapons (primary, secondary, special) require specific silencers. Crossbow is the only weapon that doesn't make any noise. You can't attach a silencer to a shotgun (however, you can do that with heavy machine guns).

Distracting attention

Use stones in missions in which you can't kill enemies (NERO troops).

While you are sneaking, you can use various items to distract enemy attention. At first, you will have access to stones - you have an unlimited number of them.

Purchase Rock On (Melee, Tier IV) skill to be able to kill enemies by throwing stones at them - this attack doesn't require any ammunition and can be performed from a distance.

Later, you will gain access to electronic devices - Attractors. Use them to distract Freakers.

You should also pay attention to other electronic devices that make noise and can attract enemy attention - Days Gone: Stealth Guide - Game basics - Days Gone Guide

You should also pay attention to other electronic devices that make noise and can attract enemy attention. Among them, you can find car alarms and sirens that can be activated in NERO checkpoints when you restore the power (cut their cables with a knife or shoot them before you restore the power).

Some hostile camps can have traps - use them to distract enemy attention or avoid them if you dont want to alarm anyone inside that camp - Days Gone: Stealth Guide - Game basics - Days Gone Guide

Some hostile camps can have traps - use them to distract enemy attention or avoid them if you don't want to alarm anyone inside that camp. You can come across bear traps (they deal damage to Deacon and immobilize him) or strings attached to cans. If you touch them, you will attract enemies to this place.

Fights between enemies

One of the better strategies in eliminating enemies is to attract Freakers or wild animals to the camps belonging to the Rippers. You can serve as a lure or you can use Attractors and make noise. This is especially useful when you know the location of the nearby Horde - Rippers will kill a few Freakers but the latter will eliminate all enemies inside that camp.

Stealth-related skills

These two abilities are useful for those who want to maximize their stealth abilities:

  1. Thief in The Night (Survival, Tier II) - eliminates any noise while sneaking and dropping items.
  2. Ear to The Ground (Survival, Tier III) - activate Survival Vision to see enemies through walls. Use it to avoid ambushes and eliminate enemies fast.
  3. Executioner (Melee, Tier V) - this ability is important near the end of the game; thanks to it, you can eliminate more challenging Freakers that will start appearing more often later in the game.
