Locations with Freaker Nests
Freaker Nests are located in areas called Infestations. These are separate side missions that appear in Deacon's journal. The optional task of clearing an Infestation zone can pop up when completing a larger mission, although you can also encounter such an event during the exploration of the world of the game.
Preparations
Each Freaker Nest must be destroyed by setting it on fire. The Molotov cocktail is your best friend here. Deacon unlocks the recipe for producing Molotov cocktails during the events of the prologue. To produce one Molotov cocktail you will need a Beer Bottle, a Rag and some Kerosene.
Alternatively, Molotov cocktails can also be found within the world of the game. They may simply be lying somewhere in plain sight, they can be stored in various containers, or you can loot them from defeated enemies. Deacon can carry 3 Molotov cocktails at a time.
If you do not have the necessary ingredients to make Molotov cocktails than take some time to look around. Quite often, the materials needed are also available within the Infestation zone itself.
How to find Freaker Nests?
There are several Freakers Nests in each Infestation area. Be sure to always explore the entire red area on the world map. The nests can be located close to each other, but they can also be very far apart from one another.
An example of a nest is shown in the attached screenshot. Nests are usually inside buildings - they can be either on the ground floor or on the first floor. After getting close to a Nest, Deacon should say that he feels a foul stench in the air. That is the perfect hint that you are very close to a Nest - check out the surrounding buildings.
Setting the Nest on fire and escaping
Once you find a Nest, throw a Molotov cocktail at it in order to set it on fire. Freakers will always come out of the destroyed nest. You can, of course, engage in a fight against them directly. However, if you do not want to fight them, then you can start escaping right after you throw the Molotov. There is a good chance that the hero will be able to gain enough distance from the nest that the monsters coming out of it will not be able to notice him and attack him. You can then plan out how to kill them without any pressure, or you can simply leave the Infestation zone right away.
If you decide to destroy a Nest during the night, fewer Freaks will emerge out of it. After sunset, however, more monsters are wandering around the area. As a result, you may have more problems with safe access to the vicinity of the Nest.
Rewards for destroying Nests
The destruction of Nests is rewarded with experience points and positive trust points with an encampment, in the area of which the Infestation zone was located. Setting fire to Nests is one of the activities required to reach 100% completion in a given region of the world map.
