Graphics options of The Division 2 The Division 2 guide, tips
Last update: 15 March 2019
This short chapter focuses on the graphics options in Tom Clancy's The Division 2. Besides discussing the in-game settings, this chapter will also help you get more frames in the game.
Graphics options
The picture above and the list below shows all graphics options in Tom Clancy's The Division 2:
Graphics Quality - Low - Ultra (and custom) - Use one of the graphics presets,
Brightness - 0 - 20 - adjust the in-game brightness,
Contrast - 0 - 20 - adjust the in-game contrast,
V-Sync - ON/OFF - synchronize what is being displayed on your monitor with its refresh rate - reduces stuttering effect. Turn it off to improve the game's performance,
Frame Rate Limit - ON/OFF - reduce the number of frames per second to make the game run smoother,
Custom FPS Limit - 30 - 200 - set your custom FPS limit,
Shadow Quality - Low - Very High - select the shadows quality, the lower the quality, the higher the performance,
Spot Shadows - Low - High - select the number of shadows created by various sources of light,
Spot Shadow Resolution - Low - Ultra - the lower the setting, the better the game's performance,
Contact Shadows - OFF/ Sun Low / All Low / All High - adjust the quality of shadows casted on other objects (higher settings will make the shadows look more natural),
Resolution Scale - 50% - 100% - reduce the Resolution Scale to increase the game's performance,
Sharpening - 0 - 10 - make the objects look more sharp or blurred out,
Particle Detail - Low - Ultra - affects the number and quality of particles, the lower the setting, the better the game's performance,
Volumetric Fog - Low - Ultra - increase the setting to make fog look more realistic,
Reflection Quality - Low - High - adjust the rate at which the game will render global reflections,
Local Reflection Quality - OFF - Very High - adjust the rate at which the game will render local reflections,
Vegetation Quality - Low - High - adjust vegetation quality,
Sub-Surface Scattering - ON/OFF - light going through see-through objects
Anisotropic Filtering - 1x - 16x - adjust the sharpness and filtering of textures,
Parallax Mapping - ON/OFF - gives textures more depth,
Ambient Occlusion - Low - Very High - adjust the quality of shadows casted by global illumination,
Depth of Field - ON/OFF - objects located farther away will be blurred out,
Object Detail - 0 - 100 - the higher the setting, the more detailed the objects,
Extra Streaming Distance - 0 - 10 - requires more RAM and HDD/SDD space,
Lens Flare - ON/OFF - creates an effect where light is scattered or flared, similar to when you look through a camera,
Vignette Effect - ON/OFF - reduces brightness around the corners of the screen,
Water Quality - Low - High - adjust quality of the water,
Chromatic Aberration - ON/OFF - distorts the picture slightly, on the elements of the interface,
Projected Texture Resolution - 128 / 256 / 512 - adjust the textures resolution,
High Resolution Sky Textures - ON/OFF - adjust the sky quality,
Terrain Quality - Low - High - adjust the level of details and quality of the terrain,
Windowed Mode - Windowed / Full screen / Borderless - choose the way you want to display the game on your screen,
Resolution - choose the resolution,
Refresh Rate - choose the refresh rate,
Monitor - choose which monitor will display the game,
Enable Reduced Latency - OFF/ON - reduces the latency of the peripheral device, however, this will lower the frame rate,
Optimizing The Division 2 - how to increase the frame rate?
Besides many graphics options that should allow you to adjust the game to your PC, The Division 2 has a benchmark, a built-in application for testing the game's performance. The game shows the performance of your GPU and CPU as well as the number of FPS. You can save your results in a .xml document (Excel extension) and shows the average result. The picture below shows an exemplary benchmark test.
If you experience FPS drops (FPS - frames per second) on a mid-range PC, try to turn a few options off, e.g. all those that increase the quality, resolution or number of details and elements in the game. The Low preset leaves a few options on or sets them to medium.
Think about turning off:
- V-Sync
- Shadows
- Reduce the terrain quality
