A handful of hints | Combat Titanfall Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
1. Remain mobile
This is probably the most important rule to observe. Quick moving around the map will let you stay unspotted and will ensure you with advantage of height, which may prove paramount, while fighting the enemy Titans. Static game and camping do not work, in the majority of cases - the enemy may get you, virtually, from any side, especially from above.
2. Use your Titan
A simple rule - call in your Titan, as often as possible. This will ensure you with necessary protection and with the advantage of firepower. In the Hardpoint it is worthwhile to consider leaving the Titan, to guard the seized point. It is best not to leave the Titan alone but stay around to support it combat. Otherwise, the maximum use of the advantage, provided by the mech, is ensured by you only, so do not leave it to the AI.
3. Select your weaponry carefully
Pick the weapons that fit your playing style. If you are a dynamic, offensive player, there is no point in using the sniper rifle, or the smart pistol, because they are not for you. Instead, it is better to go for the regular carbine. On the smaller maps, shotgun is worth considering - one well-aimed shot can sweep the enemy away immediately.
4. Flank the enemy
Never haste to get to the wrong end of the enemy barrel. The construction of the maps allows several alternative routes to the same point. Use this to your advantage and surprise the enemy by throwing a grenade through a window and climb up the stairs afterwards.
5. Use Burn Cards
The cards provide you with advantage, often considerable, but use them wisely - you lose them irreversibly after you die, or after the game ends. Therefore, a quick death after respawning is sheer waste. Do not be afraid of using the cards - the ones just used up will be quickly replaced by new ones.
6. Carefully with Titans
If you are not onboard your Titan, you need to attach extra attention to the enemy machines because you are easy to kill. Try attacking mainly the ones that are low on health and their health bar is not full. Use the hit & run tactic - fire a quick shot and hide, behind a cover, even faster. Attack the exposed, weak points or go for the lethal rodeo.
7. Smart pistol
This small weapon is lethal, but also tricky at the same time. It is especially useful for killing AI-controlled bots - you can deal with a small group very easily but, against Pilots it is not enough. - you need 3 shots to kill one, which makes time, necessary to aim, longer. If any of them is in motion, this becomes even impossible. An additional downside of the weapon is its short range. To sum up, in many cases, before you manage to lock on anybody, you will be dead.
8. Be a team player
Especially as the Titan. A very effective tactic is "exchanging of shields". This is how it works: one of the Titan goes in front, with his shield active. In the meantime, the other deals as much damage as possible, while hiding behind his back. Then, they change positions, until the shield regenerates. This simple tactic may prove very effective, if you and your ally harmonize.
9. Kill the AI-controlled bots
In combination with Minion Detector, the smart pistol allows you to eliminate AI-controlled bots quickly. This, in turn, allows for faster completing of challenges and unlocking of upgrades.
10. Epilogue
Remember that you only have one take at evacuating/preventing the evacuation - if you die, you will not respawn. This is why, during the evacuation, it is best to move along the sides, away from the center, and use cloak before you go aboard the ship. On the other hand, while chasing the escaping, lay low, close to the extraction zone and try to destroy the evacuation ship, best by using the Titan weapon.
