General information about combat in Starlink Battle for Atlas Starlink Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 26 October 2018
Starlink features various types of enemies. Every enemy acts differently and has unique weak sides. This chapter focuses on the most basic combat elements.
During the entire game you sit inside your starship. This is how you will fight in every battle. Every ship has two weapon slots. Your loadout isn't fixed, you can change it at any point of the game. Thanks to that you can adjust your weapons to enemies and their weak points. Every weapon has a few stats:
- Rate of fire
- Damage
- Energy cost
- Type of damage
Energy cost is the most important parameter. It determines the amount of energy required for a single shot and the number of shots before your weapon overheats. When this happens, you will have to stop shooting for a moment. The maximum number of shots also depends on your ship's energy. The indicator around your crosshair shows you your current amount of energy.
Your choice of a spaceship is equally important. Ships, just like weapons, have a few stats:
- Speed
- Weight
- Defense
- Maneuverability
- Energy
These characteristics work in specific circumstances. Fast starships are great against fewer enemies. Due to their ability to dodge enemy fire with greater ease, these starships are also fantastic for space combat. Heavier and better armored ships are great for land combat against numerous enemies. It is more difficult to dodge enemy fire on land. However, you can hide behind environment objects.
In combat, you have to focus both on dealing and avoiding damage. Every starship has a certain amount of durability. Your ship's "health" is represented by the bar in the bottom left corner of the screen. When it goes down drastically, you should think about leaving the battlefield and repair your ship. Once the bar gets depleted, your ship will explode. After that you will have to go back to respawn point.
Location in which a fight takes place is the last important element of Starlink's combat. Usually, fights on a planet's surface take place on flat surfaces. This means that you can be attacked only from four directions. Use the flight option to get advantage. Also, you can use elements of environment to hide from enemy fire. The combat gets more complicated in space. Your ship can be attacked from every direction. Rely on your ship's maneuverability to make dodges faster. A ship's color is also important - there aren't many objects behind which you can hide. That is why you should stick out as less as possible. The darker the ship, the better.
